Playtime for web designers – Macromedia Flash 8 Professional
The Macromedia Flash 8 Professional is a must-have if you earn your bread by creating interactive sites, cartoons, videos, games and developing mobile content.
Our in-house web designer, i.e. yours truly, found Flash 8 making his job much lighter and more fun. And there are enough reasons to believe that the community of web designers and animators has welcomed this upgrade. Until now most of them had issues about video, text legibility and the interface. Flash 8 has addressed, rather tackled these issues most effectively.
This version features numerous improvements to design-tool and work-flow. There is even a reworked video codec that reduces file playback time and shrinks file size. The improvements will mean better control on effects and filters at runtime, sleeker Web-video display and faster scripting even if you are a first-timer with this product.
The key attractions here are a standalone video encoder plus an encoding plug in that allows you to connect professional video editing tools. Users can connect any of these video editing software: Adobe After Effects 6.5, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid XPress DVQ and QuickTime Pro 7.
Besides a superior encoder and support for alpha-channel video this version offers new runtime blend modes; better text rendering using improved text-tools and anti-aliasing; and separate undo functions for objects and documents. It also helps organize libraries and create storage space on your desktop for objects that you wish to save for later use. Users experienced with the previous version will find they able to blend image sections, even across the length of a scene in real-time. It also simplifies the process of importing video with a dialog and a wizard to guide you.
If you are not a professional web designer but itching to go creative and add some effects on your personal web pages, you should go for Flash Basic 8 or download a 30-day free trial version of both Flash Basic and Flash Professional 8. Even if you aren’t a professional user, this bundle is sure to make you feel like an expert in a couple of weeks’ time.
Flash 8 is available as an upgrade from a previous version or packaged with the Macromedia Studio 8.

Whenever we downloaded content rich in Flash, it used to take us ages to download them. However, Macromedia’s Flash 8 definitely seems to have changed all that. It allows web designers to provide rich content with low file size! It is an incredible thing. I would say it is a ‘revolution’.
