Google Desktop 2
The Google Desktop 2 performs the essential task of hunting for news, maps and your lately accessed files and Web sites.
Installing features of Google Desktop 2 on Windows XP aren’t troublesome. Though some of the automated content displays can be confusing, things could be customized as per one’s wish.
Third-party programmers have added plenty of valuable tools to Desktop and, in time, more will definitely be added.
Not everyone might feel comfortable using Google Desktop 2. This is because you are basically handing over your surfing data and computing habits to a third party. Keeping this in mind, Google's privacy policy states that, without the user’s consent their personal details and content won’t be collected. This can be done by unmarking the Advanced Features in case you prefer not to send information about particular web sites you visited to Google. However, disabling Advanced Features does have its disadvantages. With Advanced Features on, you could view personalized news and photos. But then, you have to make a choice.
The Sidebar in Google Desktop 2 features photos, maps, Google Talk, Weather and a lot more. It is possible to discard Sidebar features which could possibly disclose your important secrets to onlookers peeking into your PC.
Additionally, you can make a selection from hundreds of plug-ins and add panels for a PC system monitor, a calendar, content from iTunes etc.
By clicking Maps, a miniwindow can be expanded. Here, you can use the search feature, which opens a browser window for Google Local.
The Maps panel presents a slide show in accordance with the locations and zip codes that appear in the Web sites you surfed. Viewing towns of Poland, Saudi Arabia et al are quite exciting.
Finding business related places like restaurants is a big struggle. Some eccentricities include the What's Hot panel, which displays item deleted a day before.
Gladly, with Google Desktop Search, it is extremely simple to locate lost mails and misplaced documents. The search bar recognizes shortcut for other applications. E.g. typing fir will instantly open Firefox. However, Google does not facilitate organizing data into handy tabs; a feature provided by Yahoo Desktop Search.
Online support provided by Google is pretty impressive. The getting-started and troubleshooting sections are nicely explained.
For people who desire to gain easy access via shortcuts to their most-frequently visited web sites, files and desktop applications, Google Desktop 2 is a recommended choice.

Hmm.This is a truly good application
Desktop 2 neatly arranges news, search, maps, and files recently accessed by you into mini portals on the desktop. Those, who want to access their frequently used files, now need not go into explore options. Shortcuts are made for them. Installation also is smooth. But, if you want other users from accessing info on your desktop, use Advance Features to block files, websites and emails. The troubleshooting section is amazing. You get instant replies for your queries. Highly impressive.
