Canon PIXMA iP4000
An enriched version of Canon PIXMA iP3000, the iP4000 is purely a photo printer. Even though there are options for printing business applications too, the quality and speed in this regards is very much average.
Having dimensions of 6.8 x 16.5 x 11.3 inches (H x W x D) and weighing 14.9 pounds, it is among the largest in the category of PIXMA printers.
Exploiting five inks colours, it comprises of pigment-based and dye-based black, the former for dark text, while the latter has a significant role in improving the photo print quality.
A USB 1.1 is present for connecting the device to your PC while another USB connector allows you to print directly from a PictBridge camera. Further, duplex printing is facilitated in iP4000 while the paper handling features are also very good thanks to the inclusion of two 150-sheet input trays. A media card slot is not provided.
Printing is rather rapid, which can be seen from the first print that needs less than 30 seconds.
Speed of the photo suit is excellent. A 4 x 6 size photo averages 1 minute and 5 seconds while an 8 x 10 photo takes 2 minutes and 36 seconds. Very few ink-jet printers have managed to surpass this thus far.
For what is primarily a photo printer, the business application suite of iP4000 doesn’t do a bad job timing 15 minutes and 48 seconds.
Text printing speed is quite quick at 6.8 pages per minute. Graphics are even better, needing a mere 2.5 ppm.
Photo print quality is without doubt among the best even though some monochrome photos look a tad dull. No issues with the colour photos, they are superb. The overall photo print quality can be rated as excellent; in fact it is superior to other ink jet printers to be precise.
Normal text prints are comprehensible at 4 points while stylized text needs 12 points font to be readable. Graphics aren’t all that superior. Loss of colours and banding is also seen in many of them.
Software available with iP400 include Easy-PhotoPrint, PhotoRecord and Easy-WebPrint.
This could be a great option if you are on the lookout for a camera that will do justice to your photos. The other features like text and graphics prints and business application suite might be of reasonable use, more so if you can consider them as add-ons to the photo printer.
