Canon PIMXA iP6000D Photo Printer

The Canon PIXMA iP6000D is specifically a photo printer not perfectly suited for business applications or even text and graphics printing considering its disappointing output quality.

Even the photo quality is not much better than that of iP5000 though the speed of printing is a bit better. Impressively, you will find a 2.5-inch LCD and a control panel via which you can preview, edit, and print photos without taking the help of your PC. This feature makes the printer a good choice for the ones seeking mainly a photo printer.

The LCD aside, the other improvements from ip5000 include slots for the major memory cards. Further, iP6000D embraces six ink colors—cyan, yellow, magenta, black, light cyan, and light magenta, all having individual cartridges. (iP5000 has five)

The iP6000D has dimensions of 7.7 x 16.9 x 12.3 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 15.9 pounds. Some other user-friendly features comprise two paper trays, each having the capacity of 150-sheets, double-sided printing option and a couple of USB ports; a USB 1.1 for connecting to your PC and another USB port for printing directly from a PictBridge compatible camera.

The business-applications suite is woefully slow eating up 49 minutes 11 seconds. Very few printers have recorded a slower timing till date.

Photo suite result is far superior clocking 1 minute 35 seconds for a 4 x 6 and 3 minutes and 32 seconds for an 8 x 10 print.

Text and graphics output come with their blemishes. While simple text prints are legible at small 4 point fonts, stylized text need bigger fonts like 12 points. Further full-page graphics come out coiled which could frustrate you. Majority of the photo prints are good with posterization evident in only a handful of prints.

Since it delivers extremely poor results for business applications and only average ones for text and graphics, it will be of utility value only for those looking primarily for a printer delivering good quality photos. Even here, iP5000 is likely to give it tough competition as its photo quality isn’t any worse.

I was quite pleased with this printer when I first had it, particularly as it had the facility to print on cd`s.
But, as seems to be the norm with CANON, after a programmed time it will stop printing because it says the waste ink reservoir is full and will not function properly unless the machine is taken to a CANON dealer or rep. to service.
I believe the `service` consists of merely certain functions which must be carried out by tha dealer for which they charge £20 - £25 for but only takes a few minutes.
For that reason alone I would not purchase another CANON even tho` the ink cartridges are cheaper than most.

A good printer
Printers, apart from being fast and efficient, need to provide users with clarity. The PIMXA is ideal for users who require photo prints with clarity. I think it has superiour quality output from earlier versions and the images seems to be reproduced with quality. A good product by canon.
