Canon Pixma iP5200R for lab-quality photos and prints that last
If you thought inkjet printers could do only so much when it comes to colour prints, you need to take a look at Pixma iP5200R.
If we are to determine the quality of a printer by comparing it then the best yardstick would be the iP5000. In terms of print quality, the immediately visible difference in print quality is due to the 3000 plus print head used in this printer compared to the 1000 used in the former product.
The printer uses both dye-based and pigmented black inks which give lasting black prints and extra depth to colour photos and graphics. You can expect decent print speeds (15 pages per minute for standard and 30 ppm for draft) and lab-quality photos (carriage res. X print head res. 9600 x 2400dpi) from the iP5200R. It will roll out 4” x 6” borderless photos in about 36 seconds. The results will convince you this printer is suitable for both the office as well as home use.
Although an inkjet printer, it still has a respectable size that seems to say it can take some really tough jobs. Double-sided printing is a given; what’s more, you can use the machine to print on coated CDs or DVDs. The printer is shipped with a separate disc-holder that supports both 120mm and 63mm discs.
The bigger advantage is the wireless networking feature – indicated by the ‘R’ in its model no. You can connect it to one or more computers via a WiFi link or USB 2.0 port network cable (not included).
A PictBridge allows you to take prints direct from camcorders and digicams without hooking it up to a PC.
In looks, this machine may seem like a plain Jane compared to some other printers, including some of Canon’s own models; but this Jane is built to deliver as promised.
