Apple iPod photo 60GB
An exceptional offering from Apple, the iPod photo (60 GB) takes Apple another step forward in iPod technology.
Exceptionally competent, the menu navigation system has been one of the major recipes of iPod’s success. And so Apple has taken the logical step of not tinkering with it in a big way. Among the notable additions, you will find the photo slideshow feature, a colour screen and better hard drive capabilities. However, the Windows software is still rather sluggish. More information regarding the play list could have the other change that could have taken place.
With this iPod, you get the docking station, 1394 (FireWire) and USB 2.0 cables, A/V adapter cable, ear buds, carrying sack, and a case with belt clip and power adapter.
Connection cables of 3.5 ft. could preferably have been longer. Further, the power adapter will have to be used with the FireWire cable. Since not all laptops include FireWire ports, USB would undoubtedly have been a better option.
Without an iota of doubt, the USP of iPod photo is its 60GB storage capability. No other players thus far managed to give customers such big storage space on a small device like an iPod.
When utilizing the FireWire connection, you should be able to fill up the entire space in approximately 4 hours which is a more than impressive result. According to the manufacturers, the battery is capable of running for nearly 15 hours. But on testing it is seen that the clarity begins to fall when approaching the 10-hour mark itself.
The photo functionality is a rather innovative feature. You can watch slideshows, browse thumbnails. Photo synchronization is done Adobe Photoshop Album and video output is courtesy the single adapter cord, comprising composite video out and stereo RCA leads.
Quality of music is expectedly great. Majority of the MP3s were preset at 320Kbps and sound clarity was far superior to rival products. Having said that, the bass could have been deeper. Even when tested with various headphones, the sound quality only deteriorated to a negligible extent.
Some basic gaming options like Solitaire are present apart from other utilitarian options like Contacts, Datebook and Notes section. These can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook.
One of the gripes with the iPod photo has to be the increase in width as a result of which most cases are rendered useless. The iTunes software also created some teething troubles. While the browsing features were exceptionally easy, a lot of technical flaws were seen cropping in. The “Do Not Disconnect” message keeps popping up innumerable times when the device is connected to the computer.
All said and done, one just can’t stop raving about the Apple iPod photo 60GB. With great music quality, massive storage capacity, a nice colour screen and Apple’s traditional user interface, it is a worthy addition to the iPod family.
