HP Compaq nw8240 Mobile Workstation
A greatly mobile device featuring a 15.4-inch wide screen WUXGA display (resolution options- 1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1200) with ATI's powerful Mobility Fire GL V5000 graphics chip, nw8240 is specifically for the graphic professionals.
Designing of the notebook is pretty good. Symbols on the top of the case can be easily identified and there shouldn’t be many complaints about the other styling features too.
Keyboard functionality is easy as it encompasses both the touchpad and pointing stick mechanisms, each with its own set of buttons. Having said that, you might experience some problems while typing as the central button is of same size as the left and right mouse buttons.
Some of the better features include an in-built Smart Card for extra security purpose and an SD Card slot.
When utilizing the 2 GHz Pentium M 760 processor and 1GB of RAM, the notebook delivered highly impressive results; the speed of functioning was superior to a few competing notebooks with likewise configuration. (The configuration is model variant)
This device also gives you multiple storage options. You can either have a 60GB hard drive with a 7200-rpm speed or exchange the DVD burner for an 80GB secondary hard drive. To further improve the pace of functioning, you can add another 1GB of RAM.
For more options, you can purchase two bottom-mounted docking stations- a simple port replicator, and a more advanced expansion base.
Among the major drawbacks, the high resolution display makes small fonts imperceptible. Still, ones in need of wide workspace for exhibiting large spreadsheets can consider the nw8240.
Connectivity features of 8240 are highly disappointing. All you will find is a serial port, three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port and a TV-out port. Wi-Fi present is also a standard one. The Bluetooth option is available only on select models.
After evaluating the audio features, it was found that sound features weren’t exactly loud. But the volume controls and speakers are good enough to aid you in small group presentations.
Battery life is sufficient, lasting for close to five hours. To further improve the battery life, you can purchase the travel battery.
On the whole, the nw8240 should be a good option for the graphically inclined people.

Creative people's first choice, by default actually
The bundle of software and the graphics chip Mobility Fire GL V5000 is a good combination for people with expertise in graphics. Maybe other PC makers haven't considered grphics chip users to be a significant market, otherwise the nw8240 wouldn't be so bloody expensive and there would be other brands with better features and lower price.

Highly recommended
This is one of the better mobile workstations in the market. Apart from its very quick Pentium processor, it also sports a very fast graphics processor and the resolution is superb.
It is very slim and weighs only around 6 pounds. This laptop powered by a 60GB hard drive multitasks effortlessly. It is ideal for digital content creation also.
Highly recommended. The price is the only prohibitive factor.
