HP Compaq tc1100 Tablet PC
The main purpose of a tablet is to bridge the gap between laptops and PDAs. And the tc1100 Tablet PC11 does a very good job at that.
Operating on the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, it makes use of the Intel 855PM chipset. Depending on the model, tc1100 encompasses either the Mobile Intel Celeron 800 MHz or Intel Pentium M Centrino 1.0 GHz processor. Among some of the prominent features are the in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity to a Bluetooth compatible phone or Wi-Fi network.
The graphics on the 10.4” screen are thanks to the nVidia GeForce4 Go 420, a 4X AGP solution. The display has a nice wide angle view. There are no issues with glares which makes reading very easy.
Standard memory can be 256 MB or 512 MB with the maximum upgradeable limit up to 2GB. A 40 GB internal hard disk drive should be enough although there are higher options.
The rotating mechanism of the PC which leads to unveiling of the keyboard is an especially good feature. Using it as a tablet, you can choose between writing directly on the screen or even typing on previously hidden keyboard when needed. The proximity of the screen to the keyboard while opening it is an issue though.
The handwritten recognition software is praiseworthy as you get a hang of it very easily. Otherwise, a soft keyboard feature on screen is present. If you are too much of a lazybone, this PC tablet has the capability to record your voice and transpose the text for you.
One feature that you will really admire is the facility to completely detach the keyboard totally when you don’t want to use it. This also makes the device extremely lightweight. (with the keyboard it weighs 4 pounds and when removed, it is 3.1 pounds)
With a great display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options, and excellent tablet features, it can be said that tc1100 has made a reasonably successful attempt to lessen the gap between a PDA and laptop.

Good, but costly
The new Compaq Tablet PC TC1100 is a spruced up version of TC1000. It’s much quicker compared to its predecessor; it has a 1GHz Pentium M processor among others. The design remains the same. However, on the downside, the docking station is quite heavy on your pocket. The keyboard could have been slightly larger too. Otherwise, it can be recommended.
