HP Pavilion zd8100 Notebook PC series
The zd8100 amalgamates digital entertainment and Internet computing in a stylishly designed notebook.
Running on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, zd8100 makes use of the Intel Pentium 4 Processor 640 which has the Intel SpeedStep technology. Processor speed is 3.20 GHz while the system bus has a speed of 800MHz.
There is a Level 2 cache of 2MB. Standard memory of zd8100 is 1024MB. Maximum memory capability of this notebook cannot exceed 2GB. Internal hard disk drive has 80GB memory with the speed being 4200 rpm.
Optical drive present is LightScribe DVD Writer dual format (+/-R +/-RW). With the help of the LightScribe Direct Disc Labelling technology, it is possible to burn attractive labels onto CDs or DVDs. Here, the PC, the software and the disc work in conjunction. You first have to burn the content, then reverse the disc and burn your personalized label.
Among some of the impressive features of zd8100 is the 6 in 1 Digital Media Reader (xD, SD, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Multimedia Card).
The 17-inch WXGA widescreen display with the BrightView technology has a decent resolution of 1440x900.
Network interface present is the10/100 LAN Ethernet integrated.
Wireless features comprise 54g 802.11b/g WLAN with 125HSM / SpeedBooster support. Bluetooth facility is also present on certain configurations.
Plenty of I/O ports are present. You will find 1 VGA port, 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 Headphone-out, 1 Microphone-in ports and cable docking connector among others.
IEEE 1394 is the video capture interface.
Expansion slots included are the one type I or II PC card slot and CardBus-enabled One ExpressCard/54 slot.
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 graphics is the video adapter capable of sharing 256MB of video memory with the dedicated RAM.
HP Mobile Remote Control is a useful inclusion.
Audio features comprise the 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated. Harman/Kardon speakers are also present.
Power supply features comprise the 180W AC Power Adapter while battery used is the 12-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery.
Software features are made up of Microsoft Works Suite 2005, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Outlook Express, Adobe Reader 6.0, Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2005 (60 day liveupdates).
The zd8100 weighs 4.22kg (9.3lb) and comes in dimensions of 398 x 288 x 42 (w x d x h). When packed the dimensions are 465 x 190 x 365 mm.
Warranty features include 1 year, pick-up and return, parts and labour.

Not a bad deal
The HP Pavilion zd8100 is not at all a bad deal. You can get it for as cheap as 1200 Pounds.
The high points are its 6 in 1 Digital Media Reader (xD, SD, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Multimedia Card). And Bluetooth facility is also available on certain configurations.
