HP Compaq nc6120 Business Notebook PC
The HP Compaq nc6120 Business Notebook is a general usage notebook, very well suited to for standard mobile computing.
Among the important features incorporated you will find the in-built Wi-Fi (for wireless connectivity), and the Intel GMA900 graphics capable of holding up to 128MB of video RAM, a highly attractive feature of nc6120. However, this leads to slowing down of the overall system speed. The dedicated video RAM does gives it a clear edge over other notebooks in this category especially in terms of multimedia features and gaming.
For the different models, the resolution can be 1024 x 768 resolution and 16 M colors or 1400 x 1050 resolution. The former is available with both a 14.1-inch and 15-inch XGA screen while the latter resolution is enclosed in a 15.0-inch XGA display.
Operating on Microsoft Windows XP, with the Intel Pentium M processor and Intel Centrino technology, the nc6120 weighs a mere 2.6 kg and is very thin at 30.3 mm.
Made of reinforced composite material and in-mould laminate, it is likely to prevent scratches.
Standard memory can be 256 MB or the up graded 1024 MB. Maximum memory capability cannot exceed 2048 MB.
Hard disk memory varies between 40, 60 or 80 GB (with speed of 5400 rpm).
DVD-ROM, DVD/CD-RW Combo, DVD +/- RW fixed 12.7 mm optical drives are present.
HP Mobile Data Protection System is present to shelter the hard drive from shock and vibration. This brings down the chances of file corruption.
Chipset options available are Mobile™ Intel® 915GM Express Chipset and Mobile™ Intel® 910GML Express Chipset.
Software included are Adobe Acrobat Reader, Synaptics Touchpad Driver, HP Help and Support, HP ProtectTools Security Manager: BIOS Configuration for HP ProtectTools, Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools, HP Wireless Assistant, Sonic RecordNow, Symantec Norton Antivirus etc.
General battery life of 4.5 hours is good. However, using the optional travel battery the duration can almost be doubled.
Power requirements comprise an external 65W AC adapter.
Audio features include integrated 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio, integrated stereo speakers etc.
Network interface is the NetXtreme Gigabit (10/100/1000 NIC) PCI Express Ethernet Controller.
Expansion slots present are 2 Type I/II PCMCIA slots or 1 Type III PCMCIA slot, and 6 in 1 digit media reader.
4 USB 2.0, VGA and HP Travel Battery connector are some of the external I/0 ports.
Warranty includes one-year standard parts and labor warranty.
All in all, a good notebook for standard usage.

Can I swap my nc6120 for another laptop from one of your readers?
Not a good choice for Flash users, I realised too late. Even the product manual said to expect batery life of around 4.5 hours. But no, I was disappointed to find it dying on me withing 2-3 hours. As a graphics designer I often have to work on the fly. Is any of your readers interested in a swapping deal? Mail me an offer.
