Compaq Presario R4200 Notebook PC series
Elegantly designed, the Compaq Presario R4200 integrates a 15.4-inch widescreen display, the 6-in-1 Digit Media Reader and a few other useful inclusions too.
Utilizing the comprehensible Microsoft Windows operating system, R4200 encloses the AMD Athlon processor with the Cool’n’Quiet technology.
The system bus can develop a speed of up to 2000 MHz at AC/DC Mode 89 Watt. You are provided with a Level 2 cache 512 KB. Standard memory of R4200 is 512 MB and maximum memory capacity of this notebook is 2 GB
Internal hard disk drive has a 60 GB capability with the hard disc controller and the hard disk drive speed is 4200 rpm.
The optical drive type is DVD Writer Dual Format (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support.
On a few models, you can exploit the LightScribe Direct Disc Labelling technology courtesy which you can add stylish labels onto CDs or DVDs. This is done by burning the data, turning over the disc and then burn personalized label.
R4200 is provided with a 6-in-1 Digit Media Reader which enables simple file transferring. This memory card device is complaint with xD, SD, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Multimedia Card.
Network interface is the 10/100 LAN Ethernet integrated.
54g™ 802.11b/g WLAN is the wireless technology encompassed. Some models also offer the highly impressive Bluetooth functionality.
Ample of external I/O ports can be located. Among them, you will find 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1 headphone-out and 1 microphone-in.
One ExpressCard/54 slot makes up the expansion feature.
The 15.4-inch WXGA High Definition BrightView widescreen has a display resolution of 1280 x 800.
ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP graphics is the video adapter capable of holding 128 MB of dedicated video memory.
Audio features include the 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated and Altec Lansing speakers.
Softwares included comprise the Microsoft Works 8.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Microsoft Outlook Express, Adobe Reader 6.0.
There are a number of optical drive driver softwares too. InterVideo WinDVD 5.0, Sonic Digital MediaPlus 7.0 and Apple iTunes Apple QuickTime are some of them.
Security software included is the Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 (60-day liveupdate).
R4200 weighs 3.6 kg (7.97 lbs) and has dimensions of 36.2 cm (W) x 27.8 cm (L) x 4.56 cm (H).
Power supply is done via the 120 W AC Power Adapter. Battery used is the 8-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery.
Looking at the warranty features, you get the standard 1 year warranty, pick-up and return, parts and labour. Further, warranty extensions are also available.

Overlook its weight and you might quite like it for its brilliant HD screen and the AMD processor
With specs like these, any notebook buyer may think it to be the average product in its range. So did I, especially since I had seen the AMD Athlon processor at work on a desktop. But the R4200 is a different monster altogether. While it is not exactly built for heavy duty work, it stands up to intensive usage without overheating and noise. The bright LCD screen is another major attraction if you are swept by looks. I'd give it a 7 on 10.
