Compaq Presario V4200 Notebook PC series
The Compaq Presario V4200 Notebook PC series runs on the highly intuitive Microsoft Windows operating system with Intel’s Centrino Mobile technology present on some models. Also included is the 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader (xD, SD, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and Multimedia Card), USB 2.0 ports making transferring of files speedy and simple.
Processor speed varies between 1.40-1.73 GHz depending on the model while the system bus has a speed of 400 MHz or 533 MHz. The different configurations feature either a Level 2 cache 1 MB or Level 2 cache 2 MB.
Standard memory for the different models are 1024 MB, 256 MB and 512 MB. Memory type can be DDR 333 MHz or DDR2 533 MHz. Certain models in this series have a maximum memory capability of 1 GB DDR while others have 2 GB DDR2.
The internal hard disk drive capacity is 100 GB/ 40 GB/ 80 GB having a speed of 4200 rpm. In some, you will find 128 MB dedicated video memory while a few others have 128 MB shared video memory and in the remaining, up to 64 MB shared video memory.
System features comprise the network interface (10/100 LAN Ethernet integrated) and wireless technologies (54g™ 802.11b/g WLAN, Intel® Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g Integrated Wireless LAN). Bluetooth is also incorporated.
Expansion slots for the different models include One ExpressCard/54 slot, One type I or II PC card slot.
V4200 has a 15.4” WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Along with the display, the ATI Mobility Radeon X700 integrated in a few models is responsible for clear images and sharp graphics.
Utilizing the DVD+/-RW technology, it is possible to burn your own discs.
Audio features comprise the 3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated and Altec Lansing® speakers.
Power supply can either be through the 65 W AC Power Adapter or 90 W AC Power Adapter. Battery used is the 6-cell Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery.
Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Works 8.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 are some of the softwares. Optical drive driver softwares present are InterVideo WinDVD 5.0; Sonic Digital MediaPlus 7.0, Sonic RecordNow; Sonic MyDVD et al.
For security purposes, Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 (60-day liveupdate) can be put to test.
Coming to the physical aspect, V4200 weighs 2.97 kg (6.45 lbs) with dimensions of 35.85 cm (W) x 25.80 cm (L) x 3.35 cm (H).
V4200 is available with a 1 year warranty, pick-up and return, parts and labour.

The V4200 is good
Compaq's V4200 has some great features that one always wanted to have. The Intel Centrino Mobile Technology makes it a key asset and with a range of offerings, I have found it to be an ideal value for money product.
It does come loaded with the latest Microsoft has to offer so one can have no complaints in that regard. I have found its word version 2002 to be extremely user friendly since I often use it. This is one piece that can provide you more bang for a buck.
