Dell Inspiron 6000

Enclosing Intel’s Centrino technology, Dell Inspiron 6000 is a midrange laptop; good for home use coupled with some good entertainment value.

Replacing the Inspiron 5160, 6000 has plenty of variations in features when compared to the former. For a start, Inspiron 6000 encompasses Dell's modernized casing design and colour scheme. Styling is impressive- light silver with shades of white- while dimensions of 6000 are 1.5 inches x 14 inches x 10.5 inches (thickness x width x height).

Keyboard arrangement is good and also highly responsive. Operating on the touch pad system, the reasonable size of the keyboard makes it comfy to use.

Weighing 7.1 pounds (8 pounds with the AC adapter); it is definitely on the heavier side for good portability.

There are media-control buttons to be utilized even when the lid is closed for volume control or toggling tracks on a CD or scenes on a DVD. Couple of stereo speakers are also found on the front edge which are of excellent quality.

Making use of 1.6GHz Pentium M processor, Inspiron 6000’s memory capacity consists of 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 30GB hard drive, with a speed of 5,200rpm. The integrated graphics card occupies 128MB of system memory.

Inspiron 6000 houses a 15.4-inch wide-screen display having a resolution of 1,280x800. The screen appears a bit too faint for one’s liking especially in the area around the edges. It is best to keep it at the highest brightness setting.

Coming to the connectivity, Inspiron 6000 comes with most of the basic, expected features. You will find a Secure Digital card reader, unpowered FireWire port, an S-Video output for connecting to a TV, four USB 2.0 ports, and a lot more.

By spending a few extra bucks, you can also get hold of the usable double-layer, multiformat DVD burner.

Software suite of Inspiron 6000 is poor. Only Microsoft Windows XP Home, WordPerfect and a few elementary photo-editing softwares are shipped.

Battery life is exceptionally good. It runs for 5.5 hours when the nine-cell lithium-ion battery is made use of.

A one-year warranty on parts and labour is offered with Inspiron 6000.

Some customer friendly services offered by Dell include a toll-free, 24/7 telephone support for a period of one year.

To conclude, Inspiron 6000 is a good laptop for simple home use or even light business tasks. However, challenging graphics jobs, games, and high-quality video editing is not possible on it.

Enclosing Intel’s Centrino technology, Dell Inspiron 6000 is a midrange laptop; good for home use coupled with some good entertainment value.
