Fujifilm FinePix A330 Zoom

Another of Fuji’s point-and-shoot cameras, Finepix A330 Zoom encloses a 3.2-megapxiel sensor, 3x optical zoom and, should we say it, many of the easy to use, mandatory digital camera features.

Simple yet attractively styled, A330 has a nice sliding lens cover feature. Predominately plastic, it has dimensions of 104.1 x 61.5 x 31.3 mm and is easily portable weighing only 145g (minus battery and memory card). A handful of decided buttons like the macro and flash controls are placed externally.

A330’s integrated 3X optical zoom lens comes with a 35mm equivalent range of 38mm to 114mm. It doesn’t facilitate wide shots though its telephoto angle shots are decent.

The 1.5-inch LCD incorporated is tiny and it doesn’t help that you can view only 90 percent of the subject. Viewfinder also disappoints as it provides a deformed view apart from exposing merely 80% of the image.

Most of features are basic. You can employ the various shooting modes-Auto, Portrait, Sports, Scene (landscape photography), Night etc.

Manual modes are minimal. But you can exploit exposure compensation and white-balance settings. The only disappointing aspect here is that you have dig deep into the menus which might get not go down well with amateurs.

While in the Playback mode, it is possible to amplify the view to make sure that the shots are captured in a proper manner. Additionally, there is a trimming feature to cut-down the file size. Further, you can view images as slides.

Movie capabilities are limited. You can record either 320 x 240 or 160 x 120 pixel resolution video clips (minus sound) at a slow 10fps rate.

While A330’s performance is not exceptional, it is good enough for a point and shoot camera; booting up takes approximately 4 seconds while reprocessing holds you up for 3.5 seconds (using flash the delay is an exasperating 5.2 seconds). Shutter lag undoubtedly stands out as it is less than a second in all kinds of shooting conditions.

Images captured are pleasantly good. Bright light pictures have proper exposure and sharpness. Only a few snaps seem underexposed. But otherwise, there is very little noise disturbance and close up shots also look comprehensive. Even as focusing is bad in dim light, the camera’s AF indicator cautions you in case you are taking snaps which might end up looking rather fuzzy.

Considering all the factors, this is without doubt a good option for novice photographers.

Bad camera even for starters
I decided to do away with this camera after using it for less than two months. Ya the quality of this camera is that bad. The designing of the camera is pretty good and the size to is small enough for ease of use I feel. However a majority of the pictures are so blurred that even the beginner photographers will feel disappointed. In fact I have torn many of the photos I have clicked in disgust. And all this is not enough, the camera functions so slowly that you will literally tear your hair out.

Not bad at all :)
This camera gives you digital pictures without getting grainy. You have 4 size options. If you are close to a PC, you can download them all. The A5 size photos taken with the camera are awesome. Same cannot be said for A4 though. Each picture is between 1 to 1.3mb.

On the downside, it has no integral memory like most cameras these days. The 16mb XD card is nothing home to write about. It connects to the PC via a USB cable (provided). While you are running XP it automatically locates the files. Download speed depends more on the speed of your PC than the camera.

There is also a Webcam. All said and done, its ease of use is its USP.
