Fuji Finepix A120
An easy to use, point-and-shoot camera at a highly economical cost, there cannot be many better options than the Finepix A120 for amateurs.
Designing of this 3-megapixel camera is not exceptional. The dimensions of 101.5 x 50.8 x 41.5 mm are too big for a normal pocket. Thankfully, it weighs a mere 120g when the batteries and media are not installed which makes it highly portable.
The USP of Finepix A120 is definitely its easy to use features. A layman can start operating the camera without peeping into the manual. Menus present are intelligible.
A120 doesn’t have the optical zoom facility but it encloses the 3x digital zoom feature.
There is an in-built flash which has a 3m range. Features incorporated in the flash are auto, always fire, always be off, slow synchro and red eye reduction.
A120 is inclusive of a 1.5-inch LCD for farming shots or else, you can use the viewfinder. This camera can be attached to either your computer or TV screen for a larger view.
Movie recording capabilities are present though limited. Video clips can be recorded at resolutions of 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 pixels at merely 10 fps rate.
A self-timer feature with a ten second delay can be used for taking self-portraits. In the macro mode, it is possible to take close up shots from 9cm distance.
Keeping in mind the user-friendliness, A120 provides consumers with the PictBridge technology using which you can take direct prints without a connecting to a computer.
For shooting in varied conditions, you can exploit the white balance options provided.
A120 runs on 2 x AA type batteries. Additionally, you can also buy rechargeable batteries.
Storing images can be done on the supplied 16MB xD Picture cards or on the purchased higher capacity cards.
Considering that A120 integrates with only the basic digital camera functions, it has to be said the image quality is reasonably good. Pictures taken in bright daylight are especially nice, looking natural with precise colour rendition. The poor quality observed in dim conditions was not unexpected as the 3 metre range of the flash is just too minuscule to make a big impact. Macro shots are credible.
If you are an infant in the field of photography, on the lookout for an easy to use camera at low cost plus producing good pictures, Finepix A120 is the ‘all-in-one’ camera for you.
