FinePix F440 Zoom
A 4-megapixel camera, F440 Zoom lacks many of the basic camera features with minimal manual modes and produces average results.
Compact having dimensions of 74.5 x 62.3 x 21.3 mm, it weighs only 150 g. (minus the battery and memory card) but its square stainless-steel framework isn’t appealing. Even so, the control placements make the camera user friendly. Atop, you find a solitary shutter release button and on the back sits the four-way controller and a mode dial.
Shooting options are disappointing. You can utilize only 4 standard scene modes. Flash features and white balance settings are present. Shutter speeds are in the region of 2 to 1/2000 second while the aperture ranges from f/2.8 to f/7.4. There is also a Macro mode feature where you can focus on the object from a closeness of 3.6 inches.
ISO sensitivity of the camera is between ISO 80 to ISO 400 while you also have the option of colour effects like standard, black-and-white and chrome.
But many of the required functions have been eschewed; prominent among them being the lack of options for the 64-zone autoexposure feature. Also absent is the burst mode and the essential autofous illuminator.
A bright spot of this camera is the 2-inch LCD which is of great use in framing shots while the 3.4x optical zoom lens having the range of 38mm-to-130mm (35mm equivalent) also impresses.
The same cannot be said about the movie mode where you can capture video clips of 320 x 240 pixels at the rate of barely 10fps for 1 minute.
Coming to the performance, it is a mixed bag. Boot up time of the camera is 3 seconds while delay between two shots is 3.5 seconds (4.6 with flash). Shutter lag in daylight conditions is 0.4 seconds and in the dark is 0.8.
Even using a lot of the flash, the 565mAh lithium-ion battery is capable of taking over 500 shots.
LCD is rather radiant especially in bright light but the viewfinder doesn’t perform that well exposing less than 80% of the image.
Image quality is not what one expects from a 4-MP camera. Blown out highlights and noise disturbance were the major annoying factor. With no AF illuminator pictures taken in the dark were of poor quality.
With lack of features and mediocre to poor image quality, F440 Zoom can be considered as an option only by the total novice snapshooters.

Xcellent
I have been using this Fuji camera for close to two months and found it really good. It delivers excellent picture quality making use of the many features present. The LCD is large, bright and very clear. Camera performance is very quick. Menu system is very usable. All the features are very user friendly. The buttons are very simple to operate. Camera is very compact and looks gr8 too. One of the few negatives is that the XD memory card is quite expensive. Battery capacity is very good.
