Sony Cybershot DSC-U50
A fashionably designed camera, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-U50 is the first in the series to sport a rotating lens. Created by Sony to simplify your photographic experience and accompany you just about anywhere, the U50 is a fun model that certainly deserves recognition.
Designed in two segments, one that carries the hybrid LCD monitor and chief camera controls, and the other that has a swivel lens along with a flash, the U50 looks quite stylish and is available in three different colours, black, silver, and metallic orange.
The camera’s rotating lens can swivel 120° in the front and to 90° to the back. A rather small 1-inch TFT hybrid LCD screen of 64,000 pixels flanks the main body of the camera. The rotating lens makes it possible for you to take good quality self-portraits at much ease. The division of the camera in two parts that are able to rotate independently renders it possible for a user to click snaps almost anywhere and at any angle. Since a flash has been incorporated with the rotating lens, unusually angled photos or dull light scenes are the best taken by the U50 in comparison to similarly designed cameras.
A complete point-and-shoot camera, the U50 does not offer ample scope for manual adjustments, although one can pick from the variety of preset scene modes for particular light conditions.
Apart from the above-mentioned features, the U50 sadly does not have too many impressive attributes. A 2.0-megapixel camera, it does not offer superior quality, big prints and is let down by its 1-inch LCD, which despite being vivid and crisp falls through because of its tiny size, more so because there is no optical viewfinder here. Therefore, framing images in such a small LCD is nothing less than a challenge.

Third time lucky with U50
This has been the third camera I am using and it’s undoubtedly been the best. Right from the stylish design to the picture quality, almost everything about this camera is good. It has good excellent build quality. I especially am a big fan of swiveling lens. The flash also performs better than some other camera. One disappointment I would say is the movie mode due to the lack of audio. Maybe even the battery life could have been slightly better. The focus is also poor. Despite the absence of optical and digital zoom, I still rate this highly as a camera considering its picture quality.
