A 7.2 effective megapixel camera, the DSC-W17 is here to offer a qualitative photographic experience, what with its high-resolution and bright 2.5-inch LCD.
Using a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, the W17 combines a 3X optical zoom with 2X digital zoom and delivers terrifically clear photographs, no matter at what distance they have been snapped. Moreover, you have the Real Imaging Processor here to produce high-quality images, besides accelerating operations of the camera.
Having an internal memory of 32 MB, this strong camera sheathed in metal, offers varied automatic modes to enable swift shooting and convenience, besides having a few manual exposure settings too to satisfy whimsical and adventurous shooters.
A remarkable feature in the W17 is its STAMINA system that conserves energy, in the sense that it works in alliance with the Real Imaging Processor technology and further enhances the camera’s abilities, thereby raising the number of shots taken. Able to click as many as 380 shots in a single battery charge, this camera is undoubtedly a powerful machine. What’s more, the already commendable 380 shot capability can augment to an impressive 430 shots if you choose to use NiMH (2500mAh) batteries.
The DSC-W17 is special in its classic combination of being traditional yet donning the state-of-the art look. Playing videos in the MPEG Movie VX Fine and Standard formats, the camera records high resolution VGA clips at the rate of 30 frames per second, when the Memory Stick PRO is in use. Therefore, one can playback videos speedily on the TV’s full screen.

Not intended for proffessionals is Sony's DSC-W17 . However with a 7.2 Mega Pixel effective shot, you're get A3 size pictures to print with superb resolution. Purples are a sore spot when you reproduce photos. The DSC-W17 beats its rivals in its price range. Carl Zeiss lens is ALSO included by standard. You can choose from several preset modes while taking pictures, including 7MP, 5MP, 3MP, and 1MP. The camera needs standard AA batteries, but they do not last long enopugh. So you better go for the 2500 Nimh rechargables, as they will give you most battery life. You can get around 380 shots with a single battery life.
Transfer speeds are speeds are over 80mbs in around 5 seconds. Not bad at all.
