Sony Cyber Shot DSC-V1
Producing pleasing pictures, Sony Cyber Shot DSC-V1 encloses a 5-megapixel sensor and a Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens with a range of 34mm-136mm. (35mm equivalent)
Styled in silver with an aluminium-alloy framework, it looks impressive though slightly heavy at 300 g. Dimensions of 99.5 x 65.2 x 56.8 are acceptable.
Arrangement of controls leaves a lot to be desired; some are too small while a few buttons are recessed. Many of the crucial features like metering and white balance don’t have a dedicated button and can be accessed only through the menus.
Feature wise, there are six different scene modes. Spot, multi pattern and centre weighed are the metering options. Exposure control can either be + or - 2EV. Flash options are also present.
Apart from using White Balance settings, the Sony special features include NightFraming and NightShot modes. For dim light shooting, V1 encompasses a Hologram AF. Among the notable exclusion is a diopter adjustment which would have been useful for those having weak eyesight.
Images captured can be saved in the JPEG and TIFF format. (no RAW file saving option)
In movie mode, you can exploit two MPEG mode options; 640 x 480 resolution video clips (with sound) at 16.6 fps. Alternately, you can shoot 160 x112 resolution (email compatible) movies at a slow rate of 8.3 fps.
Multi burst mode, gives 16 snaps at less than a second. A horribly bad burst mode is capable to taking just 3 shots in a second.
Neither the 1.5-inch LCD nor the optical viewfinder are top class.
V1 comes equipped with a 32MB Memory Stick. You can expand the storage capabilities by purchasing the higher capacity Memory Stick Pro.
Starting up this camera will take you round about 3 seconds. Shutter delay in bright light is swift at 0.6 seconds but in the dark it takes 3 seconds.
Recycling using the JPEG was close to 3 seconds and with the flash, it was double. TIFF mode results were bad enough not to deserve a mention.
The multipoint autofocus feature excels in varied shooting environments. Hologram AF feature also makes an impact.
Pictures taken with V1 are pleasantly sharp with the correct amount of exposure and colour rendition. Barrel distortion is too small to mess up images in any grave manner. But noise disturbance is definitely a worrisome aspect. Even at ISO 100, the annoyance is more than apparent
Despite a few hiccups, the overall image quality is definitely good for a 5-megapixel camera.

Sony DSC-V1 real bad choice
I bought this camera due to fantastic DIWA award winning promotion. Never thought its poor real life performance. Very poor response from shot to shot with flash. It take about 8 sec charging time b4 you can snap the next photo. Not good for indoor photo taking. Damn poor battery life. Not recommend to buy this product even with it DIWA awards. The awards is just to bluff and trick customer to buy it product. Pls don't fall into Sony camera product anymore.

Exceptionally good camera lens
I have always been a big sony fans b’coz their cameras more often than not have something really nice to offer. And after using this camera my liking for sony cameras has only gone up by notches. And why not. After all it houses the reliable carl zeiss lens. LCD is top class. Further, you will find many more nice features, all combining to give u high quality pics. U can make use of both the auto as well as manual modes and take my words, won’t end up disappointed. Movie mode is gr8 as well. One gripe may be the camera speed is slow at times. Battery life is also slightly short of expectations. But all said and done, it is just 2 good a camera and the minor flaws can be overlooked.
