Sony DSC-T1
A body of steel and a camera for a class, the DSC-T1 is a sleek and sophisticated piece that thankfully hasn’t compromised even a wee bit in its strength or robustness. It has substantial weight in its stainless steel body and cannot be overlooked considering its small size.
The DSC-T1 has substituted an optical viewfinder in this camera with a large 2.5-inch LCD screen with 211K effective megapixels. Dominating almost about two-thirds of the rear of the camera, this high-resolution LCD helps frame crystal-clear and vivid images so conveniently that one doesn’t miss the conventional optical viewfinder at all.
Talking of this model’s ultra compact and thin metallic body despite housing a plethora of digital features, the 5-megapixel DSC-T1 with a 3x optical zoom has to give all credit for its slim body to its Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optical lens, which doesn’t protrude out, but functions from inside the camera.
One only needs to slide the cover of the front lens down and voila! DSC-T1 has its big 2.5-inch LCD in front of you to serve as your viewfinder. Furthermore, this digital camera has the ability to playback high-quality 640x480-pixel videos in the MPEG-VX Fine mode that look very professional.
Besides, T1 offers refined auto-focus along with myriad auto-exposure modes in order to snap accurate pictures. One can also pick from eight shooting modes as suited to the situation. Automatic settings adjust the camera to take good and accurate images of the scene, whether or not there is adequate light. In its Magnifying Glass scene mode, objects to be photographed can be seen in the LCD in an enlarged form of up to 3.3 times.
Moreover, inclusion of a rechargeable Infolithium battery pack again sized as small as a matchbox, along with a little Memory Stick PRO Duo, contribute immensely to the camera’s diminutive size of 3.6 x 2.4 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D)

Not even average
I won’t rate the DSC-T1 among the better cameras I have used. I must say I did expect a lot out of it. Earlier too it have used some sony cameras. But this is downright disappointing. Camera performance is slow. The 5MP camera also does not deliver any extraordinary results. While the pictures are at best bearable in bright light, the same cannot be said abt the images captured in dim light with the flash which are as good as invisible. Camera is light and portable. Also the LCD screen is very big. But the absence of the optical viewfinder is felt big time. While the battery performance isn’t gr8, many times the battery compartment opens easily I’ve always admired Sony for producing some very good cameras. But I have to say with a heavy heart that this time they have disappointed me badly.
