Sony Cyber Shot DSC- P92

A click-and-shoot camera, the 5-megapixel Sony CyberShot DSC-P92 comes equipped with fully automatic controls apart from a few manual controls and thus is a good option for the novices.

Featuring a 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom, it weighs a hefty 260 g inclusive of battery and memory stick. Even so, the dimensions of 119.5 x 57.7 x 36.8 make it compact and reasonably portable.

Camera designing must be appreciated as the controls are logically located.

Navigating through the menus should be a cakewalk thanks to the comprehensible user interface and, as a result, you shouldn’t have a problem operating it. Additionally, the menu can be read in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

P92 encompasses only a 1.5’’ LCD screen which is rather unsatisfactory. The LCD gives you 100 percent view of the subject. Besides, you can make use of the optical viewfinder for proper shot framing.

For image transferring, you can utilize the USB cable.

You won’t find a histogram which could have come in handy for the amateur photographers. Being targeted mainly at greenhorns, it does not include the aperture and shutter control which is basically for more advanced photography.

Among the general features present you can make use of the white balance settings like Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent and Incandescent. Flash consists of Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Synchro and No Flash. Using the Red Eye Reduction is also facilitated. For better photographic results in different settings, you can make use of the scene modes (Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Snow and Beach).

Noise disturbance can be reduced using the ISO sensitivities which can either be set to auto or you can manually adjust it between 100, 200 and 400.

To improve shooting in dim or no light, you are provided with an AF lamp.

In the movie mode, you can shoot MPEG (640x480) clips at 16.6fps. For emailing, you can record lower resolution movies (160x112) at 8.3fps.

Starting up the camera takes an unimaginably long time. Running on Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, the P92 has an acceptable battery life.

Image quality of P92 is good without being exceptional. The colours are accurate and images do look fairly sharp making it a competent point-and-shoot camera. The autofocus feature works reasonably well. Noise disturbance too is very much negligible.

Delivering nice picture quality and having an easy to use interface, P92 is worth considering for the amateur photographers.

A click-and-shoot camera, the 5-megapixel Sony CyberShot DSC-P92 comes equipped with fully automatic controls apart from a few manual controls and thus is a good option for the novices.

This is good
The first thing to be said about this camera is it ease of use. It offers different options on the menu to modify your photograph images. The zoom functions are a bonus. With its film option, you have a permanent memory of an event with sound without having to lug a camcorder.

The battery comsumption is high. When in night mode, the camera must be held very steadily to avoid blurring of the image. This camera does give you high definition snaps.
