Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P93A

A 5.1 effective megapixel camera, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P93A encompasses a 3x optical zoom and 6x digital zoom as also a 32 MB memory stick.

In addition, it also integrates a 1.5-inch TFT LCD which exposes the complete image. For better framing of shots, you can also make use of the optical viewfinder.

You will find plenty of the useful features incorporated in P93A. Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Candle and Beach are the scene modes you can select from. A Real Imaging Processor helps in perking up the image quality apart from minimizing the shutter lag and enhancing the battery life.

Flash options include Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Synchro and No Flash. Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent and Incandescent are the white balance options while an exposure compensation feature is also present.

Images can be shot up to a maximum of 2592 x 1944 resolution (5.1MP) and 640 x 480 (VGA).

An AF Illuminator assists taking snaps in not so bright conditions.

In the Shot Burst Mode you can capture 9 high-resolution shots at 1.2 fps while employing the Multi Burst mode you get 16 snaps of 320 x 240 resolution.

Another helpful function is the Slow Shutter Noise Reduction where the image is captured in two exposures and subtracting the two, you get a better final result.

Thanks to the presence of PictBridge, you can print images directly without connecting to a PC.

Using the movie mode, you can shoot VGA (640 x 480) video clips at a speedy rate of 30 fps. If you store videos in the 32 MB card provided, the duration of the movies will be less than 90 seconds. Another option in the movie mode is handy for emailing clips. Here, you shoot at lower resolution (160 x 112 pixels) which means the videos can be easily emailed.

P93A is equipped with a 32 MB memory card for picture storing. In addition, the camera is compatible with Memory Stick Pro media which can hold up to 1 gigabyte. Images can be transported to a PC or Mac courtesy USB 2.0.

Driven by two rechargeable NiMH AA-sized batteries, it is small in size with dimensions of 117.2 x 53.7 x 35.8 mm. With the battery and media card installed, it weighs 236 g.

While the battery life is extremely good, the picture quality is decent at best.

In conclusion, P93A is an efficient point-and-shoot capability camera.

A 5.1 effective megapixel camera, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P93A encompasses a 3x optical zoom and 6x digital zoom as also a 32 MB memory stick.

Many features present but picture quality not special
Though I have been using this camera for close to four months, I’m still not sure how to rate it as it comes with all the features I want and yet when I look at the picture quality, it does not make me jump with joy. My camera has got a 5 megapixel sensor, 3x optical and 6x digital zoom. Then there is also the 1.5 inch a TFT screen which I don’t feel is gr8. Optical viewfinder is of reasonable quality. Even the 32 MB memory stick is not too bad. I have tried all the possible shooting options. It was very much a mixed bad with some good, some bad and others average. Not a bad camera but with better quality pictures, it could have been ever better.
