Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P32
Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P32 does not feature an optical zoom but encompasses plenty of shooting options for an enhanced photographic experience.
The 3.2-megapixel camera integrates a 3.2x smart zoom feature and has dimensions of 101.3 x 57.7x 35.2 mm. With the battery and memory card in place, it weighs 217g.
Styling of DSC-P32 is reasonably nice. Markings on the controls are comprehensible. Navigating is simple courtesy the intuitive menu system.
P32 comes equipped with an f/2.8, 33mm autofocus lens.
For different lighting environments, you can use the available scene modes; Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Snow, or Beach.
There is no dedicated macro mode although you can take shots from a 10 cm distance. Flash options consist of Auto, Forced Flash, Slow Synchro and No Flash. In burst mode, you get two photographs at 30fps.
Moreover, P-32 offers colour effects like Black And White, Sepia, Negative, and Solarize. White balance settings consist of Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent and Incandescent. ISO sensitivity ranges from Auto, 100, 200 and 40 and exposure compensation includes +/-2.0 EV, 1/3 EV step.
Images can be saved in the JPEG format which is compatible with two compression settings.
There are some good video shooting options. In the MPEG-movie mode, you can shoot movie clips at VGA (640x480) resolution at a speed of 16.6fps. Email compatible clips can be shot at 160x112 resolution at 8.3fps.
Battery life of P32 is exceptional. With the AA batteries, you can get more than 700 images when fully charged. Starting up takes one second. While the shutter lag is half a second in bright light, it occupies 3 seconds with the flash. Reprocessing takes 4 seconds in natural light and close to 7 seconds with the flash.
The 1.6-inch LCD is provides a 100 percent view of the subject. An optical viewfinder is present but it only reveals 84% of the image.
For image transfer, you are provided with USB 2.0.
Picture quality of P32 is good overall with accurate output and colour reproduction. White balance settings come in handy in different lighting conditions. Noise levels even at high ISO resolution is average even as fringing was pretty much evident in some snaps. AF lamp is helpful in dim light conditions, but with the no optical zoom there are times you get ambiguous results.
Apart from the absence of an optical zoom, DSC-P32's shooting options make it good enough to be rated better than a standard point-and-shoot camera.

Disappointing is the word is describe P32
I somehow did not have very high expectations of the P32. Having said that, I received this on my 21st birthday, so in that way, it will always remain a cherished object. However, when I look at the camera performance, I just feel that it is not worth having it. Don’t mean to say that it is an exceptionally bad camera. But it isn’t good enough to be called a nice camera to. Picture quality is decent in bright light but terribly bad whenever and wherever the flash is made use of. Exposure compensation is disappointing and the digital zoom is as good as absent. I did find the start up time good and the menu system was also easy to operate. Batteries aren’t disappointing either. But the camera performance undoes all the good features.
