Sony Cyber-shot DSC-FX77

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-FX77 is a much-improved sibling of the DSC-P72. It also happens to be the first camera to offer Bluetooth connectivity. This feature sets it apart from other digital cameras in this segment. With 4.0 Effective Megapixel resolution and a 1/1.8 inch Super HAD CCD, the DSC-FX77 promises to deliver a rich digital experience.

To be honest, the camera does not look like it is one and has got a most unusual shape, but make no mistake for it does pack a punch. The 1.5-inch LCD display could have been a bit bigger in size though. For a camera that packs a host of exciting features, the LCD is very small. For the Bluetooth connectivity to work seamlessly, a Basic Imaging Profile (BIP)-ready products kit is required to be integrated into the camera. The lens that has been supplied with the DSC-FX77 is a Carl Zeiss Distagon lens and because of this there is no zoom option in this camera. The HAD CCD technology is a welcome addition though.

It allows more light to enter into the CCD sensor, thus lighting up dim conditions to a fair degree. Other features include the traditional MPEG HQX video format for recording movie clips. Voiceover option is also available and is adequate for a camera in this segment. The multi autofocus (AF) and center AF settings are ideally suited to the DSC-FX77 and it really proves this in less than optimal conditions where light is dim.

Overall, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-FX77 is a lovely piece of digital equipment that is a must for point and shoot situations at nighttime.

Absolute stunner
It is equipped with bluetooth so the possibilities are amazing when you have a Sony Vaio laptop. It is good for shooting movies with supreme quality, as it has 320x240 MPEGHQX. The drawback is that you would need a very large Sony Memory Stick to record a home movie.

You can also create an animated GIF on a website. Individual photos can be stringed together to form a moving image in an image file when exported from the camera. Go for it.

...Zoom...

Very poor indeed. There is no optical zoom on this camera (physical zooming with a lens), only a digital zoom (software zooms in on part of an image). Depending on what resolution photo you are taking the zoom can be as low as nothing to not very far. If you're looking for a camera with a good zoom function, avoid this one.

...Various Features....

This camera boasts all the usual features of any other digital camera such as different ocusing modes etc and white level adjustment etc. Too complicated and too many things for me to list in detail, but it does have advanced features for those who know how to use them on the manual mode.
It also has Voice Photos!!!
These are photos with sound. A cross between a movie and a photo, it is a still photo with a 5 second sound clip of when that photo was taken, rather cool! ;)

I hope I have given you an insight into some of the best and worst bits of this camera but if you were asking my opinion then I would say it is a very fine camera for the average maybe semi-advanced user.
I have not had any problems with it so far...

---------------Extra info-------------------

I got this camera + 128MB memory card for £260 because it was a display model and in a duty free shop. They retail from about £250-£300, the price varies depending on where you buy the camera.

Someone asked me to explain Bluetooth, so here it goes...

Bluetooth is a technology that allows devices to wirelessly connect to each other using radio signals. Some devices have a range of up to 10m whilst other more powerful devices have a range of up to 100m.
For example, a handheld computer (pda) may have bluetooth built in and I could use this to send the pda photos from my digital camera, erasing the need for a usb cable or any cable at all.
Most phones have bluetooth now and if you perform a search when you are out, you'll be suprised at how many other devices your phone finds and can, in theory, connect with.

I hope I have cleared that up a bit
