Sony Cyber Shot DSC- P100

Though the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P100 has been billed as a smart digital camera, it ends up being a point and shoot camera, which is ideally suited for users who do not particularly care for the way their images shape up quality-wise. With a resolution of 5.1 Effective Megapixels and the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, the DSC-P100 makes the right start towards fulfilling its promise of being a compact digital wonder.

The 3x Optical Zoom, up to 12x Smart Zoom and 6x Precision Digital Zoom are quite adequate for a camera in this segment. But somewhere down the line, the camera's LCD lets users down in that it is too dim for proper composition and ends up delivering sub par images. Another irritating feature is the fact that each time the user wants red-eye reduction; he/she will have to access the Setup menu all the way from the start. Users have a choice of opting for automatic, adjustable-program, or full manual exposure for their images. The Real Imaging Processor takes care of image quality by providing sharp focus.

A Histogram Indication warns users when shots have been improperly exposed. The P100 has VGA-resolution video and is accompanied by audio, another feature which could use a bit of work in subsequent series. A USB 2.0 High Speed Transfer provides the connectivity options in the P100. The camera is PictBridge Compatible meaning users can directly print images without having to connect to a PC.

Overall, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P100 is slightly below the mark because of a below par LCD and is only suited for a casual photographer.

Though the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P100 has been billed as a smart digital camera, it ends up being a point and shoot camera, which is ideally suited for users who do not particularly care for the way their images shape up quality-wise.

Just 2 good
I have been very unlucky when it comes to owning good cameras. In fact, all the cameras I’ve owned before this have only disappointed me. So I wud say the P100 has proved to be umpteenth time lucky for me. And believe me; I did lots and lots of explorations before finally deciding to lay my hand on this. It’s been less than a month since I am using this and I haven’t found a single fault in my camera yet. The lens quality is mind blowing. Pictures are extra sharp and even movie shooting features is exceptional. Battery life is also awesome running for over 3 hours. The designing is very trendy and deserves a mention. While on the point of design, even the size is very small to create any kind of trouble. All the features are very user friendly. I haven’t found a single flaw as yet and hopefully not in the future too.
