Sony DSC-F88
Designed rather dramatically, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F88 is a compact bodied camera with an internal swiveling Zeiss 3X optical zoom lens that can rotate to 300 degrees, enabling you to see yourself in the 1.8-inch LCD screen before pressing the click button.
This 5.1 megapixel camera produces sharp and clear photos and that too at an intense speed with Sony’s Real Imaging Processor. One can shoot snaps at different angles through the camera’s rotating lens, for instance, shots at waist levels or shots higher than the head. Basically, one gets a great deal of flexibility with this camera’s rotating lens and clear shots of close-ups even amidst a crowd, become a reality.
Moreover, the Auto or Program AE exposure mode of the camera is a boon for amateurs as they can go click-click effortlessly with this camera. As for photographers used to controlling each and every action manually, the manual exposure mode is present here to modulate aperture settings from wide f3.5 – f8 and tele f4.2 – f9, along with the shutter speed from 30 - 1/500 seconds. Besides, ten preset scene modes exist to help users employ their photographic skills in all kinds of conditions apart from other valuable features like a five-area auto focus, multi-pattern metering, auto fill flash, live histogram, as well as USB 2.0 port.
The DSC-F88 uses a InfoLithium battery pack and gets recharged fast, saving good time in charging and clicking images. Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO memory cards are also accepted by this model. A quirk associated with this camera is its long shutter lag noticed in low contrast lighting, along with its rather insufficient scene modes.

Nothing more than an average camera
I had some good expectations of this camera and while it did live up to my expectations in parts, overall I wasn’t too satisfied with it. The 3x optical zoom is ok at best. I did think the 5 MP sensor would be good. But unfortunately the picture quality turned out to be a let down. Pictures looked nothing more than average in most cases and most shooting conditions. I was hoping to get some reprieve from this disappointment so I tried the movie mode but that too was bad. It is also heavy which didn’t please me too much. One thing that I did like a lot about the camera was the superb designing. But it was not good enough to make up for so many frustrating features.
