Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T33

Yet another ultracompact digital camera from the Sony brigade, T33 has been clearly designed keeping in mind the nonchalant photographers who put their shooting skills to test during casual occasions like a picnic or a party. This is very much evident in its simple, easy to use features.

Enclosing a 5-megapixel sensor, the rectangular shaped T33 has dimensions (99.4x60.9x20.7mm) that will easily fit into a normal sized pocket. What’s more, even with the battery and memory card, it still weighs a tolerable 150 g.

T33 integrates the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens having a range of 38-114mm (35mm camera equivalent). In addition, you can capitalize on the 6x digital zoom and 12x smart zoom.

In magnifying glass mode, you can take shots from a distance of 1 cm.

With no viewfinder, you have to depend solely on the 2.5-inch LCD for composing shots.

The flash range is a mere 1.7 meters. For better focusing in dim light conditions, T33 encompasses an Auto Focus (AF) lamp.

To enrich your photographic experience, there are ample of scene modes Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Snow etc available.

Shooting 640x480 resolution movie clips at a swift 30 fps is possible through DSC-T33.

Apart from the facility to add colour effects, there are white balance settings, exposure compensation options and metering modes. Shutter speeds are between 1 to 1/1000 seconds.

ISO sensitivity can either be set to auto or you can manually adjust it between ISO 100, 200 and 400.

The incorporated burst mode permits you to take four shots at a speed of 33 fps.

Using PictBridge, you can take prints without using a computer via the USB cable.

Picture quality of T33 is a mixed bag. While most pictures have good colour reproduction and accurate details, the dark spots in many images look inadequately covered and in some cases snaps lack that cutting edge sharpness. Redeye feature also looks incompetent, so also fringing is perceptible in close up shots.

Start-up time of 1.3 seconds is very good while recycling too is excellent at 1.5 seconds. The cherry on the cake is the negligible shutter delay of half a second.

T33 runs on a rechargeable infoLithium battery. The status of the battery can be checked on the LCD screen.

Unlike many others, T33 comes with a 32MB Memory Stick Duo for storage purposes.

In spite of a few discrepancies observed in the picture quality, T33 is still recommended for the laidback photographers courtesy the camera’s user friendliness and bountiful of features it embraces.

Yet another ultracompact digital camera from the Sony brigade, T33 has been clearly designed keeping in mind the nonchalant photographers who put their shooting skills to test during casual occasions like a picnic or a party.

Produces bad pictures in low light
I purchased this camera around three months back and then thought it was a really good one thanks to its chic, stylish design, big LCD and also the compact style of the camera. And thankfully, it took nice pictures frequently in adequate light. But under dim light is where it falters in a big way. And while the starter photographers might not have too much grievance about it, I certainly do. I’ve been photographing since my childhood and wud claim to have enough knowledge about this field. Being so, I have tried all the possible options this camera has for improving the picture quality. Sadly, still couldn’t get the desired result. To conclude, I would only like to say that if u r looking to get gr8 pics during the night, this is certainly not the camera for you.
