Sony DSC P-200
The DSC-P200 measures 4.1 by 2.0 by 1.1 inches and is slightly shorter than its predecessor, though the weight of the two models is the same at 6.4 ounces with battery and Memory Stick inserted into it. A change from the P-150 is that the microphone has been moved to the top of the panel, thereby improving the comfort factor by a degree. The Setup option has been moved to the menu system itself and is accessible form there.
The camera has got 7.2 Effective Megapixel capacities and is equipped with the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, which is mechanical rather than electronic as was present in previous models. This move is a welcome one. The 3x Optical Zoom with up to 14x Smart Zoom and the 6x Precision Digital Zoom are definite improvements in this version. The Sony Cyber Shot DSC-P200 has a Start-up time of 1.3 sec, Shutter Time Lag 0.3 sec and a Shutter Release Lag of 0.01 sec. Users can take close-up shots courtesy the 2.4 inches in wide-angle mode. The nine scene modes include Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap (portrait), Snow, Beach, High-Speed Shutter, Fireworks, and Candle settings.
Video clips can be shot at 640x480-pixel resolution with 30fps sound using a Memory Stick Pro. The camera has got an excellent battery life and up to 984 shots per charge can be continuously shot courtesy Sony's InfoLithium rechargeable cell. The camera also boasts of a Custom Manual option that stores natural settings to render any shot that does not require extra settings. It has the ubiquitous USB 2.0 High Speed Transfer and is PictBridge Compatible.
Ideal for everyday shots that do not demand stringent controls.

Some good features, some bad make this an average camera
I had sold my previous 2 cameras for lack of quality before purchasing the P-200. And while I don’t want to say that it has been third time lucky, I at least have the satisfaction of saying that this performs better than my previous cameras. The 7-MP feature is excellent. The battery life is good And coming to the picture quality, both day and night pics are equally good though colour representation is not perfect in a few cases. Now coming to the bad part. Close up shots look really horrendous. And even the white balance settings are not up to the mark. Finally, even the movie mode won’t make you feel better. 2" LCD is ok but could have been slightly bigger. Just an average offering from Sony.
