Samsung Digimax A5
A technologically superior offering from Samsung, DIGIMAX A5 is incorporated with a 5-megapixel CCD sensor and a radiant 1.8 inch colour TFT LCD display.
The dimensions of 5.7 x11.0 x 3.4 cm are decent and its weight of 166 grams (batteries and memory card not included) isn’t very bad either.
With a rather helpful user interface, you can make optimum use of the extensive features present. A mode dial situated atop the camera helps you access the various modes while the bright colour LCD enhances viewing to a great extent. And not least of all, a one touch button allows you to switch between playback and capture mode.
DIGIMAX A5 incorporates a Samsung High-Definition (SHD) lens which is responsible for the incredible picture quality.
Shooting options include the 10 different Scene modes (Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow and Text) as also the aperture priority, shutter priority and fully manual shooting modes.
A macro mode present allows you to take close up shots from a distance of 4cms.
White Balance features the Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent_H, Flurescent_L, Tungsten and custom functions.
In Flash, you can exploit Auto, Auto & red eye reduction, fill-in flash, slow sync and flash off features.
Movie capabilities are enriched courtesy the Power Movie Clip feature that enables users to shoot high resolution VGA clips (up to 640x480) at either 30 or 15 fps. Using Power Movie Clip, you can also pause, rewind or fast forward the movie clips.
For storage purposes, A5 has an internal memory of 16MB. In addition, the SD memory slot, which can hold a maximum 512 MB card, is also provided.
A5 is compatible with JPEG, DPOF 1.1 file formats for image saving and AVI (Mpeg) for movies.
The maximum image size for A5 is 2816x2112. You can make use of the three different resolution settings - Superfine, Fine and Normal.
Printing without a PC is facilitated via the PictBridge technology and Connectivity purposes are solved thanks to the USB 1.1.
Image editing features comprise cropping, rotating and colour adjustments.
Among the softwares included with A7, you can utilise ArcSoft Photo Impression, Digimax Viewer and Digimax Reader.
The camera is compatible with 2 x AA Alkaline batteries which can give you 250 pictures when fully charged. Optionally, you can also try out the AC adaptor. A power save option comes in handy when you want to increase the battery life as it automatically switches off the LCD when not being used.
With excellent designing and splendid features, DIGIMAX A5 is worth buying.

Great camera for the price
I have been using the Digimax A5 for more than two months and would recommend it to camera buffs for quite a few reasons. It is simple to operate, has a handy feature set and most important gives out pictures of superior quality. Menus can be easily navigated. There are manual exposure functions too. Even the white balance settings are good. I found most of the scene modes to be good. Macro mode gives some really good shots. Build quality of the camera is really nice. Placement of controls also seems proper. The 1.8-inch LCD is very useful for proper shot framing. Battery life of the 2 AA batteries is rather average and hence it is better to purchase rechargeable ones. The final image quality impressed me no end. There is hardly any noise disturbance nor signs of fringing. With no AF lamp, the pictures are not as great as they are in bright light. But other wise, given the price of the product and the features, it is really nice. For an economical camera, it is really a worthy camera.
