This good-looking camera is one of the more sophisticated digicams from the Samsung family. It gives 5 megapixel high res images and allows you to record movie clips at VGA resolution. Video clips can be shot at 24fps. The camera’s 5x zoom (7x zoom during playback) makes it handy for some long shot action such as a winning goal at a football match. It has 4 different scene modes – Landscape, Portrait, Fireworks and Night Scene. Depending on the time of day, the location and the subject, you can choose the appropriate mode to ensure clearer pictures and video.

The digicam’s Samsung High Density (SHD) lens will ensure pictures with near natural clarity, colour and sharpness, even in low light.

The White Balance Function in the A502 is a lot better than in many other brands in the same price and features range. Here you can select from various light settings such as Automatic, Sunlight, Cloudy, Sunset, Fluorescent H, Fluorescent L, Incandescent and User-defined.

To add some mood to your still pictures you are provided nine different types of photoframes.

Immediately after shooting video you can then view it on a computer’s monitor or a TV without any loss of video quality.

Other features in the set include functions such as one-touch playback, voice recording - as ‘voice-over’ for the video you have shot, and even voice memo to add short messages to the stills you have shot. The voice recorder can be used for as much as one hour.

The 1.8" colour TFT LCD screen, the simple menu and the PictBridge are the plus points of this camera that amateurs will greatly appreciate. The PictBridge feature allows you to take pictures directly from a printer without having to connect to a computer. You only need a USB cable; just make sure the printer supports the PictBridge standard. You can do without a PC in more ways than one while using the Digimax A502. You don’t need a computer to edit images stored in the camera. This camera has in-built editing function such as trimming, resizing and rotating images the way you like it and save it. The resizing function helps save memory space if you reduce the size of the image.

With 16MB in-built memory card you can save pictures without a memory card but you are given the option to increase capacity with Secure Digital and Multi Media Card (SD/MMC) slot. This allows you to seamlessly transfer images saved in the internal memory to the later added memory storage.

The camera’s dimensions 96.5x52.5x29.7 and weight 105g add to the definition of the term ‘pocket-friendly’ device. It’s easy on the eyes, easy on the pockets and so handy. And the pictures it takes are certainly above average. We see it as great value-for-money. Go buy.
