Here’s a digital camera for people who put a price on everything they do. Samsung’s Digimax A6. This camera is certainly one of the more efficient digicams of its generation and especially from among the Samsung range.

Capabilities include: 12 X zoom (3x optical and 4x digital), more image formats, VGA video (640x480) images (with audio) of 30fps, playback even when the power is off. Video stored on the camera can be viewed directly on a TV. It also has a PictBridge that allows you to take prints directly from a printer that supports the PictBridge standard thus dispensing with the need for a computer.

As it is primarily a camera, one must consider the quality of its pictures. The A6 clearly scores high in this area by producing excellent quality pictures whether the light is too low or too bright. The camera uses a Samsung High Definition (SHD) lens that makes the images sharper and clearer with 6.0 megapixels. The white balance may not be entirely satisfactory, at all times, but then look at the overall picture. You needn’t be a professional photographer to see that the picture quality is very good. Amateurs are certain to like this digicam.

The camera can store 11 pics in full resolution jpeg, fewer if they are uncompressed. But using the Tiff mode, you can probably go beyond 20 images too.

It has nine scene modes that give you the option to choose the kind of image you want. You can shoot even in review mode by simply pushing the shutter button. The set of features in the A6 include many that are common among other run-of-the-mill cameras. Viz. self-photo mirror, continuous shooting, a user interface with colourful graphics, one-touch manual function, etc. The 1.8” LCD screen is another feature you will like, although not big enough, it’s still shows reasonably sharp images.

The camera also has a voice recording, voice memo and text mode by which you can convert saved pictures into text file – this employs the Digimax Reader - a software that works as a scanner to read through the document. The A6’s battery feature is certainly a big advantage as uses any type. The camera is shipped with a rechargeable CR battery that seems inexhaustible even after many pictures.

In short, we consider this camera as certainly worth every penny spent on it. Our rating: 8 out 10.
