Canon PowerShot S70

A 7.1 megapixel camera with a compact framework, Canon PowerShot S70 is very much like its predecessor PowerShot S60, the major variant being S70’s advanced sensor.

Extremely well-styled, the black colouring gives the camera a sturdy and rather masculine feel. It’s quite large in size but may just fit into extra large pockets thanks to the absence of a grip.

S70 has a 3.6x optical zoom with a range of 28mm to 100mmm, unlike many digital cameras who’s focal range begins around 38mm.

A Control dial located atop the camera gives you plenty of setting choices like Portrait, Landscape, Night, Fast action and Slow action.

In the Auto mode feature, the camera is capable of selecting the appropriate balance in accordance with the surroundings.

Among the shooting effects present, you ca make use of Vivid, Neutral, Low sharpening, Sepia, B&W, Custom etc.

Macro mode permits capturing pictures which are as distant as 4cm.

An extremely efficient function is present in the form of the Panorama mode. Here you can shoot large sized images in bits and pieces and affix them together in the appropriate manner.

Drive modes features integrate the Single, Continuous, High Speed and Infra Red options.

Last but not the least; you also have the option of creating your original settings.

The camera has a timer (max 10 seconds) in case you too want to be in the shot being taken by yourself.

More good news comes in the form of the S70’s video capabilities which has ample of resolution options starting from160x120 to a maximum of 640x480.

S70’s ISO range starts from 50 and the peak ISO is 400. However, you have the option of Auto ISO mode which will definitely work in the lower ISO range, enhancing image quality.

The proprietary Canon batteries charge relatively fast but might be a letdown on important occasions if not charged properly.

S70 is compatible with the RAW files format. But a major disadvantage is that it eats up a lot of memory as compared to other file formats.

Images captured from S70 are satisfactory but the noise irritant while using higher ISO’s is a major gripe. Also fringing is very much evident in a few shots. Thankfully, you can get rid of it in post-processing.

Apart from a couple of disappointments, S70 can without doubt be rated as an excellent megapixel camera with plenty of efficient shooting options.

camera with ample of shooting options
I bought this camera only a few days back and within no time have fallen in luv with it. First thing that I found attractive was undoubtedly the black designing which gives it such an impressive look. The males would undoubtedly love it. While most of the features provided are useful, I in particular made use of a lot of the special effects. After watching the pictures, I felt the noise is a bit too much at some places initially. But there are many more impressive options which help improve the image quality to a large extent. And this is why I feel the camera is really good one.
