Canon PowerShot A85

The Canon PowerShot A85, an upgrade to the well-accepted PowerShot A75, is a 4-megapixel camera with point-and-shoot simplicity thus making it an extremely useful digital camera for amateur photographers.

A85’s plastic framework is not very heavy but its dimensions are just too big for it to fit into a normal pocket. A lens cover present helps in keeping the camera sheltered when it is turned off. When the lens cover is removed, it takes only a couple of seconds for the camera to be ready for use.

Apart from making it a 4-megapiexl camera, the other important enhancements a better 1.8 inch LCD, additional special modes and a better DIGIC processor.

You can utilise 13 shooting modes. Staying with the modes, PowerShot offers manual and full-auto exposure control, five prearranged capture modes, and six Scene modes.

The exposure control feature is designed keeping both the professional and layperson in mind. While the former type can take full advantage of the Manual, Aperture Priority, and Shutter Priority modes, the apprentices will welcome the Auto, Program AE, and Scene modes.

The PowerShot A85 incorporates the 9-point AF system. Among some more enhanced functions, you can check out sensor, manual focus, and the new Print/Share button. Not least of all, there are Custom white balance settings too.

A85 encompasses a 3x optical and 3.6x digital zoom on the 35-105mm lens. Further, this Canon can use the zooming feature to take pictures via the 1/2.7-inch CCD. It is possible to append a lens converter to the A85's 3X zoom lens which facilities a wider and better view. The focal length ranges between f/2.8 to f/4.8 depending on the zoom setting. Manually or automatically it can be extended up to f/8.0.

Like PowerShot A80 has delivers good image quality in daylight while the AF Assist light helps the camera focus and take good pictures in gloomy shooting conditions. The camera is capable of delivering excellent results at up to the size of 8 x 10-inch.

The LCD is a 1.8-inch screen from where photos and menus can be seen. Maximum shutter speed of A85 was found to be 1/2,000 second.

Among the disappointments are the alkaline batteries which have a very limited life. Also skilled camera people will not be very happy with the JPEG file saving option.

However, with plethora of exposure controls and other impressive shooting modes, Canon PowerShot A85 is a worthy successor to A75.

The Canon PowerShot A85, an upgrade to the well-accepted PowerShot A75, is a 4-megapixel camera with point-and-shoot simplicity thus making it an extremely useful digital camera for amateur photographers.

nice camera with good features
There is nothing xtraordinary about this camera's performance. But it u r looking for a camera that provides many shooting options and gives you quality output, A85 should work well. The camera may be too big for some poeple's liking but once u start using it, you'll get used to it. The lens features are pretty effective. Among the features, I found the WhiteBalance settings to be really good. The biggest crap feature is however the battery life which is atrocious. It's probabaly the only thing apart from the size that could prevent many from turning away from it.
