Canon PowerShot S60

An enhancement to relatively admired PowerShot S50, the Canon PowerShot S60 looks extremely slick and performs better than its predecessor, as should be the case with successors.

Its dimensions are a big too big to be comfortably placed in a standard pocket. But the utility of the phone more than make up for this minor blemish.

The 3.6X zoom functions nicely, especially with its 28-mm wide-angle capability and it is possible to shoot from a distance of two inches.

S60 has a focal length starting from f/2.8 up to f/5. The 5-megapixel camera has a 5.8mm to 20.7 mm range which is 28 mm to 100 mm (35-mm equivalent).

Unfortunately, the 1.8-inch TFT LCD doesn’t live up to expectations. The radiance is not vivid enough even after many of the possible modifications are made.

The shooting-mode dial incorporates plenty of modes like the fully auto, scene select, aperture and fully manual modes. But the most disappointing aspect here is that you have to scan through the menus to locate many of the modes. And navigating through the menus can prove to be quite a tedious job.

The ISO options are excellent beginning from 50 to a maximum of 400. Moreover, there are nine white balance settings (one especially for underwater usage).

S60's also features a Lamp Assist AF system which is inclusive of a focus bracketing feature is very adept at performing its task well. A special Slow Sync function is present to merge the flash feature with natural light.

The shutter speeds is between 15 seconds to 1/2000 seconds and the megapixel camera has a peak resolution of 2592 x 1944. A welcome change from some previous PowerShots is S60’s compliance with the uncompressed RAW format.

Video feature ends up being a disappointment with its ability to shoot 640 x 480 pixel resolution clips at a measly speed of 10 frames per second for a scanty 30 seconds.

Start up time of S60 is reasonably good at 3.8 seconds while recycling too doesn’t take longer than 2.6 seconds. In bright light conditions, images shot by S 60 look comprehensive with the colour representation very satisfactory. Auto flash feature will deliver mixed results and you have keep attuning it to get the desired output. Resolution wise, S60 displayed an average of 1,300 resolvable lines.

If you are patient enough to work out the proper navigations, S60 is undoubtedly a superior digital camera.

An enhancement to relatively admired PowerShot S50, the Canon PowerShot S60 looks extremely slick and performs better than its predecessor, as should be the case with successors.

Poor video quality
I purchased this camera b'coz my frnd recommended it to me sometime back and well I won't say I' over the moon abt it but yes it is relatively good with a few shortcomings. Most of the shooting modes are good which is reflected in the very appreciable picture quality. But I did not quite like the video features. What the hell can u do with 30 second features. Though the most of the functions are useful finding them can be a hell of a job as the menu arrangement is pretty disappointing. Even the size is a big too hefty. Anyways, I'm still reasonably satisfied.
