Canon PowerShot Pro1

A high-end model by Canon in the 8-megapixel category, the PowerShot Pro1 is a rough and tough camera that is ergonomically designed to suit a photographer’s hand and offer a comfortable grip while shooting.

Being the first compact digicam to hold a 7x ultrasonic zoom lens that is electronically monitored with a ring surrounding the barrel, the Powershot Pro1 is undoubtedly different. One will also easily notice the emphasised grip area in this camera, along with the flexible command dial, which can swivel around, and be ticked just like the button of a mouse. Besides, the Pro1 camera also presents a sharp and expressive 2 inch, 235,000-pixel LCD screen, which is capable of being released to the left as well as being turned up 180°, or 90° down.

Additionally, there is an electronic viewfinder (EVF) of 235,000 pixels, which is in fact the maximum ever resolution found in the viewfinder of a PowerShot. It has a power-efficient mode called the “Display Off” that can switch both the viewfinder as well as the monitor off according to a delay time set by the user.

Even the shutter speeds in this camera are the most rapid in the Powershot category, which extend from 15 seconds to 1/4000 seconds in the manual mode. Nevertheless, one issue that can be referred as its drawback is the placement of a few buttons on the right side of the camera that tend to touch the part of the hand below the thumb and inadvertently get pressed.

Faulty placment of controls
This is camera is very good but does fall down on a couple of issues. Methinks the 8mp feature really rocks. LCD is good but I have seen better ones. It is definitely not as clear as nice display should be. Thankfully, the viewfinder can be put to good use. But I was really dissapointed with the way the buttons on the camera are positioned. No matter how hard you try somehow you end up pressing the wrong button. This is the major reaon why I was very annoyed with the camera. Otherwise, it does function very well.
