Canon IXUS 40
An innovative step by Canon to make a mark in lens technology, the Canon IXUS 40 seems to harbour all that it needs to attain optimum image quality, albeit within a small body frame.
Encased totally in metal, the IXUS 40 exudes style and élan all the way, looking slim at 20.7 mm and weighing reasonably light at 130g. The most petite digital camera from Canon, the 4 megapixel IXUS 40 possesses a UA 3x zoom with a focal range of 35-105mm (35mm equiv) in addition to aperture settings of F2.8 to F4.9.
The camera additionally presents a 9-point AiAF (Artificial Intelligence Auto Focus) which will help you determine a particular portion of the scene or object that needs to be focussed upon, along with a large 2-inch LCD screen and an electronic viewfinder. Also, the DIGIC II technology is employed here to speed up imaging processes and their quality. This camera helps one record movies in monoaural sound and 640x480-pixels, up to 1GB.
Moreover, the iSAPs feature in the IXUS 40 implies ‘Intelligent Scene Analysis’, which refers to a fitted photographic ‘specialist’ that is competent enough to adjust the camera according to the scene or subject to be shot.
Nevertheless, all sophistication and value of this metal wizard instantly fades away when one catches a glimpse of the unpleasantly designed storage and battery bay plastic cover, as it looks extremely unsightly and cheap.

Small, lightweight and effective
I’ve owned the IXUS 40 for about a month and it has given me great results. Being very small in size, it can be carried easily to many places and the weight also is not an issue. I really like the 2 inch LCD is quite a big one. Speaking of picture quality, they are highly impressive. Colours look very bright and even the overall pictures are sharp. Most of the shooting modes are nice and so is the flash. Battery life is only a bit of a problem more so b’coz the battery status is not displayed anywhere.
