Samsung X100
Unlike many of its previous clamshells, Samsung offers users an entry-level phone with a typical candy bar structure in the form of X100.
X100 is a slick device with the mix of silver and indigo blue giving it a marvellous touch. The finely curved edges also enhance the grace of X100. The antenna being placed internally prevents marring the designing in anyway.
It has dimensions of 110 x 45 x 20mm weighs a reasonable 85g, making the overall build quality solid.
Coming to the keypad arrangement, the numerical keys seem too close to each other for ease of use. On the other hand, the directional keypads are not too deep-seated and facilitate comfortable usage. The keypad’s blue backlighting is of good quality enhancing the screen visibility in the dark.
To the left, you will locate the silver rocker switch and an earphone jack sheltered by a rubber. At the base is the opening for charging and on the rear is placed the battery and SIM card. A service light present flickers every few seconds in either one of your selected colours- orange, red or green.
X100 has a 65 k colour 128 x 128-pixel UFB display which gives decent results. But the brightness is not as vivid as some other Samsung models.
Though the polyphonic ringtones installed are extremely audible, the tones are not exciting enough. The vibrator feature is strong enough to be felt in most conditions.
User interface of X100 is highly speedy. Only apparent lag is visible while opening message and files to be deleted.
Text messaging is straightforward and fast and its memory facilitates storing 200 SMS messages. You can also insert new terms in the SMS dictionary. MMS feature is slightly handicapped with a maximum size limit of 80kb.
Memory wise, X100 is quite rich. You get 9.3MB for the multimedia and MMS features while 1.5MB is reserved for Java based applications.
The phonebook has the capacity to store 1,000 contacts.
For internet surfing, you can utilize the WAP 2.0 browser.
The connectivity options aren’t that great. While Bluetooth is absent, at least an infrared port is needed.
Among the pre-loaded Java games you will come across Snow Ball Fight and Bubble Smile which are good fun. The absence of FM radio is a big disappointment while use of the voice recorder is permitted only through the MMS menu.
With good reception and signal strength, the 900mAh Lithium-ion battery of X100 will give more than three days of moderate use.
Being just an entry-level mobile lacking some essential features like Bluetooth and FM radio, X100’s target audience is rather limited.

Good phone but with bad reception
It’s been more than a year since I’ve been using tbe Samsung X100 and well it has been very much a hunky-dory card. First of all I was most relieved to see this Samsung cell without an external antenna staring out. Using the pone functions is also very easy. The colour screen makes the phone very viewable. And thankfully, messaging is not as difficult as seen in many other Samsung pieces. The designing to is nice and you’ll be happy to know that its really light and enjoy holding it in your palms. The only gripe I have is with the mediocre reception. Otherwise, the phone does not give you any reason to complain.
