Samsung X600
Like X100, X600 is also designed in the candy bar format moving away from Samsung’s traditional clamshell structure. In fact, it is very much similar to X100 in functionality except for the fact that X600 encompasses a few advanced features like a VGA camera and infrared port.
X600 is reasonably lightweight at 80 g and the size of 102 x 43 x 20 mm is also acceptable. The mixture of silver and indigo blue adds sheen to the almost faultless designing of the handset. (Almost because the external aerial does tarnish the exquisiteness to some extent).
Keypad layout is pretty customary and navigating too shouldn’t be too much of a pain. Overall, the user interface is very straightforward following in the footsteps of X100.
The 65 k UFB display (128 x 128 pixels) is lucid in bright light. But the problem arises in the dark as the screen looks extremely obscure even with the backlight.
The 40-chord polyphonic features is becoming quite common these days and keeping that in mind, it has to be said that the melodies are not enjoyable as most are rather rudimentary.
X600’s selling point undoubtedly will be its VGA camera. The 640 x 480 pixels camera has an exciting 180-degree swiveling feature which facilitates shooting from many different positions. Images taken in bright daylight are of excellent quality. Flash light present assists shooting in dark environments though the results are not as good. The 5x digital zoom present doesn’t work quite as well as the clarity isn’t good enough. But the presence of a variety of shooting modes is extremely helpful. It is also possible to cover up the camera when not in use which is very valuable as the camera lens gets shielded.
Camera apart, storage is another high point of X600. You can utilize 9.4MB of internal space for stocking up pictures, ringtones and MMS. The maximum message size for MMS remains 80KB, just like in X100.
Connectivity options are limited with both Bluetooth and data cable absent. Using infrared is the sole option you have for data sharing.
Web surfing is enabled courtesy the WAP 2.0 browser which offers good speed.
Among some of the other important aspects, reception and voice quality is highly superior.
The 900mAh battery will not give you more than two hours of talktime and 5 days on standby, which is extremely disappointing.
X600 has loads of memory and the camera too delivers excellent results. But the lack of connectivity options and low battery life are hard to ignore.

What a birthday present!!!
I was gifted the Samsung X600 on my birthday and wow what a birthday present it has turned out to be. The camera and flash features are really good. I loooove the design and in particular the blue colour which makes it oh soooo cute. And boy it has got loads of memory. There may be no Bluetooth but I don’t bother about it. In fact I consider it an overrated feature. The polyphonic ringtones are cool. Both SMS and MMS facilities are a cakewalk. And to add to it, it is not at all heavy. It’s an absolute marvel.
