Samsung E710
The Samsung E710 is a clamshell with an internal antenna, integrated camera and dual display. Apart from a trendy look, it has dimensions of 90 x 45 x 23 mm and weighing 85 g, it fits nicely into your palms.
E710 has an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) external display making the screen very glowing. The screen is divided into two parts. One section is used for caller identification. Other part has displays important information like messages received, battery meter, signal strength, clock etc.
Above the external screen, you can view the camera sensor and LED flash which helps using the camera in murky surroundings. Volume control is located to the left when you open the flip. In closed mode you can find a button for the infrared window and the 2.5mm headset jack. On the right, there is a camera key which gets activated 4 seconds after it’s pressed. At the base is the charger plug-in.
Flipping open the phone, you will see the 128 x 160 resolution TFT 65k color display which is reasonably bright.
Keypad layout includes two soft-keys and four-directional keypad. The buttons can be operated without much difficulty and give quick responses.
Text messaging is normal. EMS facility is also offered but no MMS is a big disadvantage.
There is a call records feature which store information about incoming calls, dialled numbers and missed calls. You can view the latest 20 in each category.
E710 comes with a VGA camera of 640 x 480 pixels with flash. Significantly, the picture quality is not path-breaking in any sense though it does have a digital zoom function. Among the camera effects you can find Gray, Negative, Sepia, and Emboss.
Memory is distributed well with 700KB for ringtones, 700KB for wallpaper and screensavers and 512KB for Java applications.
For PC connectivity there is no Bluetooth. So you will have to be content with a serial port.
You will enjoy the 40 voice polyphonic ringtones with different ringing profiles. But a big shortcoming is found as the vibrator and ringtone do not function simultaneously. It first vibrates and then rings rendering the vibrator quite useless at times.
Standard applications comprise of alarm, calendar, calculator, to do etc.
Signal reception of E710 is pretty moderate and neither is there anything exceptional about the sound quality. Battery life is rather disappointing with a talk time of 3 hours and standby of 180 hours.
Lacking many of the modern features and carrying an unimpressive VGA camera, Samsung E710’s only USP is its charming design.

Absolutely rubbish
This is a yucky phone. Looks alright but the features make you go crazy in disgust. No Bluetooth, no radio, what the hell. Video recorder is horrendous. Hardly any ringtones worth mentioning, sound quality too isn’t good at all. I made a big mistake when I started believing that al least the camera is good as it captured excellent images. But even that consolation did not last long as the camera refused to take pictures after only a week. It cannot get worse, can it???
