Samsung P510
Samsung P510 is a clamshell phone with an integrated VGA camera and a range of impressive features.
Being a clamshell with dimensions of 87 x 45 x 24 mm, its weight of 92g isn’t all that heavy.
The external display of P510 houses some crucial functions like the clock (compliant with both digital and analog format), battery meter and caller ID among others. Internally, the phone holds a TFT display supporting 65,536 colours with an average 128 x 160 pixel resolution.
A shortcut button on the side which automatically opens up the phone is a great inclusion making it rather sophisticated. But the antenna hanging out takes away some of the gloss.
Once inside, you’ll be exposed to the keypad arrangement. You can locate the four-way navigation stick and in the centre is the WAP browser key. The blue backlighting adds to the splendour of this phone which has a user friendly interface.
The integrated VGA camera with resolution of 640 x 480 pixels gives more than decent results. Most photos taken are of good clarity. Further, it gives you the capability to shoot as much as fifteen snaps in progression. The 'Matrix' feature allows you to convert around nine photos into a solitary picture.
Different shooting modes include moonlight, negative, sepia, mirror etc, while there are four image settings: economy, normal, fine and super fine. Like in the all Samsung handsets, here too you cannot switch off the shutter sound. A LED placed adjacent to the camera acts as a flash in dark surroundings.
Samsung P510 allows you to take advantage of some rather affable features. Phonebook permits you to save whopping 1000 contacts’ information as also their pictures which will appear on screen when the respective person calls.
General functions consist of an alarm, calendar and the currency converter.
Fun Box feature allows access to the WAP browser, images and Java games too. Two in-built games aside, it’s possible to download Java games too.
Connectivity purposes are taken care of through the infrared port which facilitates exchanging information with phones or PCs via IrDA.
You can send SMS and MMS in various modes. The memory can store 200 messages while the SIM card further has a capacity of 30 messages.
The 64-voice polyphonic ringtones are mind-blowing.
Dual band capable, the battery is likely to provide you a talktime of 5 hours and standby period of more than 300 hours.
With the camera delivering good results and most of the other functions also up to the mark, it’s certainly a phone worth considering.

comme ci comme ca
Though this phone has video recording, it does not have sound for videos. But it has a photo caller ID, which I really fancy. The camera is excellent. Receiving and sending picture messages can be a pain though.

An ‘in-between’ clamshell
I purchased this phone a couple of months back and must say it works really well. The display is big enough and impressive with more than 65k colours. The camera too takes great pictures and the video recording feature is gr8 but lack of sound isn’t pleasing. Well… the ringtones aren’t great. I love the photo caller ID function which shows u the picture of who’s calling. Well what else messaging is good. But games aren’t that cool. Battery capability is also a bit 2 low I feel. While I won’t totally recommend it, it won’t say it’s bad either.
