Sony Ericsson P800

A phone cum PDA, Sony Ericsson P800 is a smartphone with an integrated digital camera, Bluetooth functionality and many other multimedia features.

Prominently light blue, the borders bear a distinct silver-white colour, giving it a rather gorgeous look. The phone comes with a platsic casing and flip. Despite this, P800 feels very much solid with dimensions of 117 x 59 x 27 mm and weight of 158g.

With the flip open, the TFT LCD display has resolution of 208 x 320 pixels recognizing 4096 colors. There are various options that allow you to perform the phone functions. You can do it when the flip is closed, open it or just take it out by setting the on screen dialer interface as its default.

Unfortunately, the flip cover doesn’t have backlighting. The lucid plastic, though, helps the light from the display shine brightly enough to elucidate the keys.

Other impressive functions consist of the voice dial feature and picture phonebook.

This triband phone has a clear reception and it’s highly unlikely that you’ll miss calls or experience disturbance.

There are more than impressive PDA functions. Check out the CIC Jot for handwriting recognition. As expected, the P800 has the customary PIM (personal information manager) applications like Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and many more.

You get 12 MB of internal memory and an external 16 MB memory stick which comes in very handy considering the advanced features of P800. With the file manager function, you can work with documents on the internal memory and the memory stick. In addition, you also have the audio & video player, MS Word files among others.

Voice recorder is of good quality and the memory stick allows users recording time of over one hour.

Internet facility can be availed of via the in-built web browser Opera. For gaming purposes, P800 is PersonalJava and J2ME compliant.

Connectivity is facilitated through the PC Suite and USB port. And then of course there is Bluetooth which works well with Windows ME, 2000 and XP.

P800’s digicam shoots at a resolution up to 640 x 480. There are plenty of options available pertaining to the brightness, contrast and other important camera settings. But what’s more important is that the picture is of good quality generally, except ones taken in slightly dim conditions which might not always look pleasing.

The 1,000 mA Lithium Ion battery gives you 13 hours of talktime and 400 hours standby.

Running on the reliable Symbian OS 7 system, the attractive multimedia features and PDA functions of P800 make it a pretty impressive buy.

Its impressive man!!!
I like this no love this phone very much. And there are plenty of reasons for it. It has some exceptional features which have been of great help to me. You get 12MB of internal memory and the additional 16MB is also very helpful. The screen resolution is very good and even all the PDA functions work well. Internet speed isn’t all that gr8 but expectable at best. Bluetooth works well and I don’t think camera will disappoint you too much. But hmmm… wouldn’t an FM have been nice. Anyways, at least I can say this has not been a waste of money.
