Sony Ericsson F500i
Here is one feature-packed phone that will be loved by young gaming enthusiasts as well as snap-happy individuals. For its size, you would be surprised how many functions it features, which is made possible by some very efficient compression systems.
This slender and light(weighing only 80g) handset will rest easy in your pocket when you don’t need to use it which would be rarely. It has so many options for entertainment that the phone would rarely be out of your hands. This is one of the very few phones in the market that feature a 3D engine which makes playing games like ‘Super Real 3D Tennis’ a real pleasure. You can also easily upload new games using the IRDA or USB.
It has an efficient menus system, a fairly decent camera giving 640 x 480 pix with 31mp resolution. And video too, though this gives only 176 x 144 images with the usual fps rate. The 65 colour-screen is also generously sized: 128 x 160. The features-set includes an MP3 Player, voice-activated dialling and the usual Predictive Text – T9, alarm clock, vibrating alert and sound recorder. This last feature means you can use any sound as your ringtone.
As Vodafone is the telecom offering this model to their subscribers, it may seem specific to their range of services, but it can just as well service other cellular phone operators.
The screen resizer is another feature that gamers are going to love: it offers 5 preset options or one can even create a screen size to suit the game being played.
The batteries are standard giving you a day’s performance with heavy duty usage (such as playing games and listening to music from your MP3); once charged it can run for even 3 days with sparing usage.
With so many features, and a price tag of around £90, it can be regarded as good value for money.

A so-so phone
Looking for a good phone at a reasonable price, I purchased the SE F500i some weeks back. And thankfully, it’s not doin badly as of now. The pictures I’ve taken from the camera aren’t bad at all. The keypad is a bit of a nuisance with overcrowded buttons. But you get good relief thanks to the ringtones which are absolutely mind-blowing literally.
Once again, disappointment comes in the form of the display with a not so striking resolution. However analyzing all the pros and cons, it’s pretty much closer to a good phone rather than being a mixed bag.
