Sony Ericsson K500i

The Sony Ericsson K500i integrates plenty of multimedia features prominent among them being an in-built VGA camera and large colour screen.

It is lightweight, weighing just 80g and the dimensions of 102 x 46 x 14 mm are pretty standard making it easy to carry in a pocket.

The display of Sony Ericsson K500i has a vast 65,000 colours. Making use of the TFT technology, it becomes dazzling and vibrant even in bright daylight. With a 128 x 160 pixel resolution, the 2 inch screen delivers excellent results.

The speedy user interface is more than easy to use with excellent image quality. You can also experience a lot of enjoyment while navigating thanks to the animated characters that follow you throughout. Moreover, the superiority and dimension of the screen play a big part in making navigation straightforward.

K500i’s keypad structure is suitable for typing out text using either one hand or both. You will find the Clear and Back buttons below the two shortcut keys near the display. A five-way joystick is placed midway between the shortcut keys which sometimes may lead you in the wrong direction if you are not subtle in handling it.

The VGA camera has a digital zoom which aids you in getting a sharper image. Apart from a video recorder, the camera also has a sound recorder. Snaps taken in daylight look nice but the same cannot be said about photos taken in the dark.

Sound quality of K500i is pretty impressive while the media player supports both MP3 and MPEG4 files.

K500i includes a ringtone composer, 3D games and in-built Java games. It is further possible to download more of them.

File Manger encloses all the files which means you can browse the saved files here easily.

A very annoying aspect on handling this phone will be evident when you try to open the back casing which encloses the battery and SIM card. Users are likely to experience extremely aching fingers due to the pressure exerted on the fingernails.

Memory space of 12 Mb is not satisfactory more so because the phone has video playback and an MP3 player. Also irksome is the absence of an expansion slot.

Often compared with K700i, K500i lags behind because of a smaller screen, absence of Bluetooth, FM radio etc But even so, K500i has its own merits and amongst most others its category, it certainy is one of the, if not the, best.

Issues
This phone has it\'s ups and downs, and with the joystick being so hard to use (if you have big fingers like me). I was a tiny bit satisified but also disappointed. It has a lack of things that the K700i has and etc.

Better than my earlier t610 and t630
I think this phone s better than both t610 and t630. Yes I have used both and think this is certainly the one that should be preferred. T630 has only 2 MB of storage space. It is just a waste of money. Instead, with this, you get 12MB of storage area. You can play MP3 songs which are quite good in quality. So I say, if u want a Sony Ericsson piece, you must have this.

Just about avoidable
I used the Sony Ericsson K500i for a few months and while I wouldn’t say, I was utterly disappointed there are definitely a few issues with the phone. The phone is chic no doubt and the camera also delivers good results. I must say that the interface is extremely user friendly. And the phone is pretty lightweight and comfortable. But most importantly the memory is pretty limited making most of the useful features redundant. The keypad arrangement isn’t that great. I broke my joystick and that was the beginning of many a woes.
