Sony Ericsson P910i - inching towards perfection
At first glance this phone might not look any different from the P800 and the P900 but it has some subtle yet significant improvements over its predecessors. The only noticeable difference is a removable keyboard and a flip with a thumb-board.
This handset would be used more as a PDA because of its set of features. It has a dual-function interface with jog/scroll wheel and keypad navigation; a huge and bright 208 x 320 pixel screen that is also touch-sensitive; a digital and video VGA camera; and Bluetooth. The jog/scroll wheel to the phone’s left side increases input options.
The flip-down keyboard when open reveals a QWERTY type thumbboard that is tough to operate because of the miniscule size of its keys. Sending an e-mail or a text message could make you tear your hair out in frustration – the keys are too small and too close together. However, if you do succeed in using this thumbboard you will find it fairly efficient.
Users of similar phones, especially SE’s own P800 and P900, have removed the flip, choosing instead to use the handwriting recognition or the soft keyboard number-pad for texting and an on-screen soft number-pad to dial numbers. An infra-red or Bluetooth keyboard might be more useful for text input.
The flip keyboard is certain to be the decisive factor in this handset’s commercial success as many buyers would see if they are comfortable or not with the feature before buying.
The jog wheel/scroll wheel is remarkable – it functions as a ‘back’ button and a menu activator that can be rolled up/down or pressed in.
The pros of this handset outweigh the cons. The tech specs include the Symbian O/S 7, a PDF viewer, Diary, notepad, contact manager, calculator, music player and a 64MB memory expandable via Memory Stick Duo Cards. The phone is shipped with an additional 32MB card. You can also synchronise this handset with your PC.
Considering the many features that are packed in this highly efficient phone, we might overlook the flip and the thumbboard. If we assess the P800 and P900 and compare it with this model, you will agree that this series from Sony Ericsson is slowly but surely moving towards perfection.

Ain't no thumnail out there, so small it can operate this phone.
Talk of limitations! The flip-keyboard is the major one. Who in his/her right mind would want to struggle to key in text messages for so long you might altogether give up the idea. The surface area of even a child's finger-tip wouldn't sit on any of these keys. But believe me even the average thumbnail is discouraged. You'd need several tries each time and go over every word even months after using the phone. Other features just about measure up to expectations. To be fair, barring the keyboard the phone isn't all that bad.

Falling just short of being a great phone
I bought a new Sony Ericsson P910i a couple of months. And it has almost become a mini-substitute for my PC. There are a lot of attractions of this cell. The display is marvellous I tell you. And sound quality isn’t too far behind. I even playing the exciting games. The MP3, camera, internet access all available. Thanks to P910i, I can store more a 200 songs. But there are a few disappointments like no FM and surprisingly poor camera quality which stands in the way of it being termed a great phone.
