Nokia 6610i

The 6610i literally includes all the characteristics of the predecessor model 6610 in terms of shape, size and design with the notable addition being the camera located at the back.

As with 6610, this handset also gives you the interesting option of interchangeable faceplates. The dimensions of 106 mm x 44 mm x 19 mm and weight of 87 g is pretty normal. But the plastic framework isn’t too impressive. You might find some difficulty while typing.

Speech quality is much better and the presence of a speakerphone is a good boon for motorists.

The multimedia features aren’t greatly enhanced with the colour screen looking pretty dreary. Polyphonic ringtones are incorporated but by no means can they be termed as impressive.

The in-built camera, the major insertion in 6610i, doesn’t live up to expected standards. It is only capable of taking stills at 352 x 288-pixel, too archaic in today’s modern day and age.

Absence of MP3 player is rather unacceptable even as the FM radio makes up for it to some extent. Unlike most of 6610i’s other features, the radio stands out as the silver lining. With great reception and easy set up, it’s of good entertainment value though the presence of an equalizer would have made it even better.

The SMS functions too are extremely helpful. Executing messaging functions at a rapid pace, 6610i has a storage capacity of 150 messages.

Among the advanced and desired inclusions, you can find GPRS, WAP browser and infrared with Bluetooth being the prominent exclusion. But you can still connect the phone to a laptop by means of infrared or the USB cable provided. With triband capabilities, you can be in touch with people always on the go.

Running on a Lithium-ion cell, it gives 3-5 hours of talktime, around 18 days of standby period its and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) level was up to 0.73W/kg.

With the camera not faring very well, unfortunately it cannot be termed as a superior enhancement over 6610.

Very much average
The Nokia 6610i left me very much with mixed feelings. The features are easy to use. There is good java support. I also like the utility features like the organiser, alarm etc. Messaging functions are very simple. And then, you can also make use of the FM radio. However there are some equally poor features as well. The quality of ringtones are horrible. The display quality and even the camera features are horrendous. Audio quality is very bad and the reception is not gr8 by any means. Hmm… not worth.

Great reception
The Nokia 6610i doesn’t have the latest Bluetooth technology. Neither the other multimedia features like mp3 players and expansion slots for increased memory. But I don’t care an inch. What I look for in a phone is great reception quality and 6610i is more than satisfying my needs on that front. It too has an FM radio, the colour display is quire vivid. Battery life too isn’t bad. If you are like me who uses a phone mainly for attending and making calls, 6610i will surely gratify your needs. And at the same time, it does offer a does of entertainment even if not to an extent that many 3G phones offer.
