Nokia 6230i

Nokia 6230i is an enhanced version of 6230 with some welcome additional features.

Comparing it with its predecessor, the major difference in design is undoubtedly the display which has an increased resolution of 208 x 208 pixels from the earlier 128 x 128. With better resolution, you get clearer text and the graphics are any time better than that of 6230i.

The screen also acts as a viewfinder when you are using the 1.3 megapixel camera. Despite all this, the dimensions of the phone are relatively comfy at 103 mm x 44 mm x 20 mm and it weighs a shade under 100 g.

Typing text is pretty easy thanks to the square, evenly sized buttons. The placement of keys is pretty logical. Below the screen, you can find two shortcut keys and also the call and end keys. The selection key for the four-way rocker is placed right in the middle is the only bone of contention. With the rocker and the shortcut buttons so closely seated, there are chances of unknowingly performing the wrong functions at times.

Animated pictures pep up the interface and make for good viewing.

6230i comes with the push-to-talk technology which virtually means you are carrying a phone cum walkie-talkie. As is common with most newly introduced handsets these days, 6230i also incorporates Bluetooth and infrared features which will help you to access PC and PDA’s through your phone. Further, you can also make use of the headphone for making calls and listening to the FM radio.

32MB of internal memory available is ample for storing all your favourite music and expansion too is possible through the 64MB MMC card provided. Taking out the card is not the easiest job as it is placed right under the battery.

The music player is very much old-fashioned with a lack of options. The equalizer does have pop, rock, jazz and classical settings.

Messaging functions SMS, MMS and e-mail which are rather easy to utilize. The e-mail functions are a bit too basic though and might not be very helpful for corporates.

The megapixel camera, which can shoot at resolutions up to 1280 x 1024, gives more than satisfactory results with sharp and bright pictures. Despite the night mode, pictures are better not to be taken in the dark while video clips are not as clear as expected.

The phone battery (Nokia Battery BL-5C) provides 5 hours of talktime apart from having 300 hours of standby time.

This is certainly a good upgradation to the highly successful 6230.

Another superb Nokia phone
After using the 6230, I felt there couldn’t be many better phones than this. But my oh my was I wrong or what. I have to say now that the 6230i is the best phone I have used till date. Sound quality of the phone is extremely clear. Recording features are exceptional. And isn’t it gr8 that this phone is capable of holding up to 2GB memory cards. And hey there is also a 32 MB in-built memory. I love the 3D menu, it’s just stunning. What more can one ask for? Hats off to Nokia. I am eagerly awaiting an upgrade of this product as well.

Surprisingly a disappointing phone from Nokia
Some days back, I brought the Nokia 6230i on the insistence of my dear friend. And now I’m paying for it in a big way. Since it was from the trusted brand, I didn’t really think it could cause many problems. But this is just one of the poorest pieces delivered from Nokia. I guess there are just too many features in the phone which does not enhance the functioning of the phone. The camera gives good results but there are undoubtedly better camera phones existing in the market. Bluetooth facility should have been of gr8 help but it is horrible. When I tried loading a song, it was unsuccessful. And even the second time, It did not get any better. My sincere advice- Stay away from this.
