Nokia 9210i Communicator

Nokia 9210i communicator is an improvement over last year’s 9210 with additional browsing and improved security features.

Like 9110 and 9210, 9210i also utilizes the clamshell form factor. On the exterior, it appears like a customary but outsized mobile with a five-line monochrome text display apart from the standard numeric keypad.

The internal features tell a different story though. Having a 4,096-color display, the screen delivers extensive horizontal viewing angles but it’s not the same vertically. To find the most favorable viewing angle, at times you have to you sometimes have to fiddle with the top lid.

Sturdily built, the titanium-colored 9210i comes with dimensions of 158 x 56mm and weighs 244g, three times the weight of standard phones. The keyboard is perfect for ones well-versed with two-finger typing. But being too hefty, it is difficult to type while in motion.

It has a total memory of 40MB, inclusive of the user memory of about 16MB. That’s not all; you can further add a 64MB MultiMediaCard (MMC).

Very much a phone and PDA bonded together; Nokia's trademark straightforward user interface offers plenty from one-touch speed dialing to the instinctive predictive text input. The PDA functions on a Symbian platform. Fast and responsive, it does not recognize pen input. Absence of a touch screen is one of the biggest negatives and hence getting used to the shortcuts quickly is highly advisable. Both the phone and PDA modes allow you to make calls and send SMS.

One of the main attractions of Nokia 9210i is the facility to surf on the move. But with the circuit-switched data (CSD) speed of up to 14.4kbps, it takes a bit too long.

The absence of General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) is almost unimaginable.

After upgradation, it now supports JavaScript, Cascade style sheets (CSS), memory card locking and picture messaging giving better web experience to the user.

Nokia 9210i comes with a foldable antenna but it is hardly needed as the reception is generally good. The problem arises when you use the 9210i as a normal phone. Unlike other handsets, the 9210i user puts the reverse side of the handset against his face. As a result, it might take some adjustment to align your ear appropriately with the phone speaker.

The Lithium-ion 1300mAh battery has 10 days of talktime and 230 hours on standby. On normal use, the phone can last four days.

With its enhanced Web browser, streaming capability, and secure access to corporate networks, it is perfect for business and corporate users who have to work outside the office.

Nokia 9210i communicator is an improvement over last year’s 9210 with additional browsing and improved security features.

Build quality is atrocious
I have using this phone for over a year now. Before that, I also owned the 9210 for a couple. Like the latter even the 9210i is decent phone to have. You can connect it to your PC and by doing so, keep all your files up to date and more importantly, keep a backup of it. Keyboard operations are very smooth and while text messing is very easy, using internet can be exasperating at times as internet connection is very tardy. Fax capabilities are useful. However the memory is too short and most disappointing is the build quality. It’s so delicate that you never know when it starts falling off.

bluetooth problems on Nokia 9210i
hi, does any one know how to get the Jabra BT200 paring with the communicator. The communicator some how fails to detect the jabra headset. Has any one experienced the same problem? The headset works with nokia 6600.
Thanks
