Nokia gets smarter with 7610

The 7610 is Nokia’s successful attempt to create something better than its own 6600 series. This one is thinner, sleeker, has a brighter screen and a faster O/S than the 6600’s. It is also a good deal better than Sony Ericsson’s S700 with the same set of features. We will not go so far as to say that it has raised the bar, as many camera phones released after this model are streets ahead and have price tags to match.

In terms of design, this one is definitely better styled and comes in two colour options: Silver Grey and Black/Red; the former combination happens to be a more popular choice. The 65K colour 176 x 208 TFT screen is as bright as you’d like.

Its 5-way directional keypad makes navigation easy once you get used to it: the keys are a little smaller than the 6600’s. To make usage easier still, this handset has a scroll function – just press the Option key upwards and you’ll arrive at the exit option at the bottom of the menu (a faster and more refined Symbian O/S).

In the camera mode, the LCD screen doubles as a good viewfinder. One of the downsides of using the camera is the long time it takes to save the image. Besides a video editor, the handset includes an HP Bluetooth Printing app, Kodak Ofoto app, and a mobile version of Lifeblog. The handset’s Java supported 7610 Welcome app impresses with its moving graphics and music.

The camera captures images of up to 1152 x 852 px but it has no flash. On video mode you can take videos of up to 10 minutes.

The handset has an integrated XHTML minibrowser which may not compare with Opera but its capabilities are definitely an improvement over its own. With it you can go back to a page you opened instead of running through the menu again.

At the back you will find a slot for an RS-MMC (Reduced size Multi Media Card); although RS-MMC is a limitation (8mb0, you can get around it by inserting a regular sized 128mb MMC card. You will need to apply some force to insert it, but once you have succeeded you will find the effort was well worth it. Also you do not need to access it frequently so then it’s not so much of a bother.

The features set includes Notepad, ToDo, Recorder, Log, etc. which you may find in quite a few other phones released over the year. Other standard features include a Pop-port (230 kbps) – a Nokia product that identifies the accessory connected to the phone.

The 7610 is Nokia’s successful attempt to create something better than its own 6600 series. This one is thinner, sleeker, has a brighter screen and a faster O/S than the 6600’s.

The minibrowser makes it worth having.
It really is a good mobile phone. I use it more as a PDA, though it doesn't have all that any executive would need. The best part is it saves much time and bother while surfing because of the XHTML minibrowser. On the downside, the camera doesn't have a flash.

Phone for the smarter race
This phone according to me is a real charmer and is designed for a real woman! Its sleek look is characteristically so feminine that makes you want to fall for it instantly! Plus, its built-in camera is a big attraction but i somehow find its functioning a tad complicated. Maybe i need to get used to it before i can effortlessly operate on it. all things aside, i think the 7610 is a revolutionary move by Nokia.
