Nokia 9500 Communicator
The Nokia 9500 Communicator has manifold uses. It functions as a PDA, phone, camera, and a wireless web browser.
A fleeting look and you might mistake it for a mid 90’s handset with a few improvements. This is courtesy its gawky interface, square dimensions with larger than normal buttons. The unimpressive grey colour also doesn’t help in making its appearance better.
On opening it, you are exposed to a big screen, a QWERTY keyboard and user-friendly navigation tools. With dimensions of 148x 57x 24mm and weighing a hefty 222g, it is likely to fit only into cargo pants.
The 9500 Communicator gives you the facility to access your e-mail, internet and much more while on the move.
The biggest plus point of the Nokia 9500 Communicator is its business friendly features. Making use of the Symbian operating system, the phone has ample of handy connectivity choices like Wi-Fi, GSM/GPRS, EDGE and Bluetooth.
The 16-bit colour screen has dimensions of 110x36mm tall, good enough for typing e-mails, word documents, and browsing Web sites. It has 80 MB RAM storage capacity making reading and amending of files very simple and quick.
The in-built camera can be made use of only the phone is closed and hence the inside screen is of no use while taking snaps.
9500 Communicator might not get a lot of marks for presentation but it certainly fares well in terms of proficiency and is very much user-friendly. The buttons are very big which makes typing anything an easy task. There are special push buttons for the important functions like calendar, contacts and telephone etc.
The installation software provided with the Communicator is self explanatory and hence setting it up for use shouldn’t be a problem.
If you use both the phone and PDA, the battery life of 9500 is likely to last four days. The wireless network does not give you too many headaches. In addition, you are also allowed to make use of GPRS. Security arrangements of 9500 include the presence of VPN, Ipsec, SPA and SSL.
The juxtaposition of the phone and the PDA doesn’t give the desired results. One has to continuously shift between the front and interior display for taking snaps and reading files.
All said and done, the Communicator 9500 is by no means making a fashion statement. But for busy entrepreneurs whose main endeavor is to get their work done quickly, this device is almost perfect.

Touch screen missing
Overall I like the nokia 9500, I had used ipaq 2210 before getting the 9500. Having a pda and a phone in one is really gr8. The only reason I got this instead of o2 and other pda's is the screen size easy to browse. I already had experienced the ipaq and had to scroll both ways to view any site. The wide screen really does help. I really do miss the handwriting recognition which was on ipaq. Would really be great if nokia had the handwriting recognition / touch screen.

I am loving it
Just got a box packed but had small problems like the contact button was a bit (well more like a bit) out angled not is proper position, but I got it replaced at the same moment. Well I have started using the nokia 9500, and would say who needs a laptop. With the 9500 I can surf, check my mails etc. But would be good if you have a GPRS or EDGE connection.
