20th Century Fox- Fantastic Four (2005)

Unlike its title, this 20th Century Fox film is anything but fantastic. An intelligent but broke scientist Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) embarks on an outer-space operation which deals with unravelling mysteries of human genetic codes. In this endeavour, he is helped by entrepreneur Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon).

Also in the team are Reed’s best pal, astronaut Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis), and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), who's Von Doom's director of research, as well as Sue's younger brother, Johnny (Chris Evans). Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) once was having a relationship with Dr. Reed but he didn’t pay her much attention and so she’s now having a fling with the handsome businessman Von Doom.

While working for one team, there are a lot of internal problems within the members. Sue and brother Johnny are mostly seen having a big quarrel, Richards’ best buddy Ben and Johnny don’t like each other at all. Reed and Sue, as mentioned earlier, were once in a relationship with one another and find it highly awkward to face each other. Because of Sue, even Von Doom and Reed do not share a healthy association.

However the thought of becoming wealthy and celebrated brought them together under one roof. But a major blunder later, their space station was attacked by radioactive elements that transformed all the crew members' DNA.

So Reed got the power to elongate and twist his body however he wants, Sue could project force fields and make herself invisible if she sheds all her clothing, Johnny was granted the ability to produce combustion and Ben turned into a bulky rock structure. Von Doom, on the other hand, turned iron-fisted and powerful enough to provide power supply to the city.

After the transformation, the script virtually becomes redundant. Those in charge of writing the script seemed to have not an iota of idea where to go. Neither the characters, nor the mood of the film is clear.

The film fails to create the quintessential comic book spirit which movies like "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" gave us. To add to the woes, the special effects are nothing to rave and even the score by composer John Ottman is dissonant.

Coming to the acting aspect, only Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, and Julian McMahon managed to deliver as per their talent while most others were mainly wasted. Jessica Alba failed for the lack of a good script while the biggest loser was Ioan Gruffudd who was pretty unimaginable as Mr Fantastic.

This is one movie worth skipping.

Methinks the radioactive elements altered the Writer's, Director's and the producer's s brains
So many cans of film exposed to cinematic turd. So many actor-hours wasted behind ridiculous masks and costumes. So many days' production time lost shooting for this space-age disaster. So many gullible folks like me lining up to see the movie or forking out money to rent DVDs. Gawd! What has the world come to?! Why didn't the producer and financers donate all that money to some charity instead?

Nothing fantastic about it
The Fantastic Four is highly unforgettable. The storyline revolving around four people undergoing genetic changes after which each could do extremely strange things. The first half has a few interesting moments but as soon as the transitions of the lead actors take place there’s nothing to look forward to. Among the cast, I found Julian McMahon as Von Doom as the best. Others suffer due to the poor script. Not worth watching according t me.
